Bike show in Atlanta Today
« on: January 29, 2011, 09:10:26 PM »
I went to the Great American Motorcycle Show today in Atlanta and was not impressed at all. I attended a few years back and there were a lot more classics, events, and items that were not Harley related. Still I had a good time mingling with fellow bikers. Met some nice people.

I was able to find some nice bikes. Thought I'd share:

how you meet people is strange, today i went on the 500 to buy some grommets,on the way home i pulled up next to a guy on a newish triumph,he lifted his visor and said he sees me riding every where and ive spoken to him before at a bike shop,as we got the green he signaled to pull up at the next petrol station three or four gears away,he has a 500 and a 750 and a couple of yammy xs650s all in various states of repair,he asked about my shiny blinkers and new seat etc, turns out hes never heard of david silvers, turns out he met the nicest person on a honda.

I went to the Motorcycle show in Cleveland yesterday. This was my first time at a motorcycle show and I was really impressed. There were lots of bikes (I just love those Harley's), including Triumph, Honda, Suzuki, Ducati, and others.

There was also a vintage motorcycle club there. Sure enough, there was a CB750 in pristine shape sitting there. They had some SOHC4 keychains for sale. I wanted a keychain so I got one. I tried making conversation with the 750 owner and told him I had a CB550. The only thing he said is "Is it for sale?". When I told him no, he pretty much snubbed me.

I was very excited about a vintage mtorcycle club and was considering joining. After that, I think I will pass.

You don't always meet nice people on a Honda. Many of them are jerks.

I rode down to the Atlanta show yesterday also.........more of a "leather and knife show" than anything.  Nice weather though!!!!

The parking lot was a pretty good bike show....kind of a "how much money can I spend on a Harley" show.

Hey Rocker...........Jump in on the world tour man.  FWIW.....a few of us are getting together at Taco Mac at the Mall of Georgia today around 2 to plan dates and routes.....come on by.

Ah, I happen to know that fellow, you must have caught him at a bad moment. He's a great guy and truly a "nice person". Please reconsider joining the VJMC. There's lots of good people and information there.

I too was at the show yesterday, it was a good one, but somewhat smaller then years past.

Caymen,

If that was me, I really am sorry.....there was no intent to snub you or blow you off.... In the three days that I was there, I probably talked to over 10 thousand people. Hundreds of people would come up and say ....I've got a (fill in any model bike you can think of )......what's it worth or are you interested in buying it..... then the next most common line was.....I used to have the same bike... except it was a 550, 350 or such. I even had my best friend, his wife and daughter stop by and they said that I was surrounded by a large group of people and that they couldn't even get close to say hello. I can assure you that I had no intention of snubing them either....it is just the nature of the beast .... Large bike shows and such. I would certainly hate for you to go away feeling that the VJMC club or I had any intention of blowing you off. I can assure you that anyone that knows me will tell you that I am a very friendly person and not a "jerk"....so again, I sorry if it was me.

I was at the Cleveland show yesterday! Of course I waited until the last minute.

I stopped at the VJMC and gawked at some of the bikes. The guy there looked like someone who was ready to go so I didn’t stop and talk. I was really adamant about getting a helmet anyway and I didn’t get there until 2pm. I got a leather vest, a padded jacket and Vega full face helmet among some other things.

There where more vendors there than anything but I really enjoyed myself.

Anyone else in the area go? I only got a few pictures of a Café Racer near the VJMC.

I know what you mean.  Used to go to walneck's swap every year at Martinsville, In.  Always very interesting vintage stuff..........................until they opened it up to the Harley riders.  now its an absolute sham and I dont go anymore.

what shirt was that guy wearing? I was in a black Deal's Gap shirt.....but I was in and out of the booth to check out the show myself...two full days and I hadn't seen anything except our booth and the show office and what little I could see in between those locations.
