wiring harness cover repair
« on: February 27, 2011, 11:30:01 AM »
My wiring harness is in pretty good shape overall but of course it has some breaks in the cover. Besides just wrapping it with electrical tape does anyone know of a more glamorous and permanent way to repair it?

You could heat shrink the whole thing.  It will cost a lot more than tape,  but it will give it a nice flat smooth finish.

Here is what I have used...
Caution: this tape creates a semi permanent sheath. It cannot be unravelled. Cutting it open is the only way to remove.

That self vulcanizing tape looks like the ticket. I think I've seen it in the parts department at the BMW shop so I'll run by there at see if I can pick some up. I'll be heat shrinking everything that I can but in a lot of areas I can't fit heat shrinking over the end to access the broken area.   Thanks!

I use Tech Flex braided wire wrap:

They have a number of different sizes and is easily wrapped and unwrapped if you need to access or the loom or run more wires.

This project started in confusion and will end in disarray.
