case savers
« on: March 03, 2011, 01:36:13 PM »
It seems as though early 750K case savers are quite hard to come by.Am I missing something? For as many aftermarket stuff there was(is)for the early K's ,there just isnt any out there.I find this strange.Fabricaters, get on this,I am sure I wouldnt be the only one buying them.I am not talking about the big loop that you always see forward pegs mounted to em,but Individual right and left case savers. ???

I was looking for some a while ago. I found some, but can't remember where at the moment. They were never very specific on model. I lost interest, but it seemed that most used the engine mounting bolts to affix to the bike. Taking this into account, aren't all the motor mounting positions the same for the 750 SOHC? Just a thought!

There are different versions, like the ones listed. Mounting those seems to be a little more ambiguous.

If I were to install some, it would be this design. It seems they are the sturdiest design.

Theyll still bend on their mounting brackets and touch your motor if you dump it. Just saying  :) but itll still save your cases from spilling their guts.

Just got mine from DSS I like them they will bend the part the bolts go in is pipe the rest is half pipe but it is better than nothing and you can put pegs on the full pipe part that's the best part for me. I like to stretch the old legs. they also came with the long allthread for the front motor mount it has to be a little longer than what is on there on a 750 K8 ;)

Post a pic with when they are installed. DSS is supposed to let me know when they have more in stock. I'd like to see how they look mounted before pulling the trigger.

I'm going to be taking mine off soon. They just look to bulky for my liking. I have one friend who has first dibs on them, but I don't think they'll fit his bike. I'll post them on here if I end up selling them. They are on my 78 750F. Here's a couple pics.

I'll take pics of just them on the bike if I post them for sale.

That's right. IF there are only 2 mounting points, the guard will still fold to the cases. Personal experience. However, in the process of bending they absorb energy. And when they hit the cases, enough energy has been diissipated and absorbed that no damage is done other than scratches. So the purpose is fulfilled and you will be able to ride home from a tipover.

However, this still bothered me and for my project I searched out the rare 3 mounting point case guards. I found a rusty pair on eBay. The disadvantage here is that they are much stronger and transfer the shock of the fall to the frame. Still its what i wanted.

I have the ones from DSS.

They're smaller and tuck in closer to the case. That's why I got them.

Same bars, not my bike.

Heres what true 3 pointers look like.

Yamiya calls theirs 3 point, but they only have 2 mounting points and a third bar.

These were from eBay and were so rusty... re-chrome was too expensive, so I went with powder coat frame color. Came out pretty good for about $20 each.

There is something about the spacing that makes them different at around the K7/1977 mark, that is there are 69-76 types and 77-78 types.

I've got a set of NOS K&N back in the day case savers. The different thing about them is that while they look like typical case savers from the side, they are connected to each other by a tube across the front of the frame. I believe the design helps keep them from collapsing in a tip over. I also have what seems to be a super rare pair of rear savers for 750F's. They mount at the top shock mount and peg mount....NOS also. Sorry, no pics right now. They're buried somewhere in my shop. If anybody wants to see pics I'll try to dig them out.

I've got the 3 point one's on my 78K. Got them off ebay. Needed a little cleaning.
I also have a set of 3 point one's for an earlier model that I may sell. I picked up for $20 off CL; didnt realize there was a difference.

If you want to see pictures of them on the bike, just click the link in the signture.

Got a pair from ebay too. Spotless though so I got lucky. I got 3 pointers too. Very solid.

I haven't seen true 3 pointers like these except used on EBAY. 3 point in that they actually tie to the frame in 3 points each.

I found these on eBay for my '79 CB650.  Got them powdercoated and installed, cover the cases perfectly without sticking too far out like those 3-point ones.
