lowering rear, shock ideas

So i want to lower the rear for looks ( i know i know people dont like this kind of thing lol ) and was wandering would you get a better ride out of cheap shorty shocks like the 11.5 in most people get or with lowering blocks and say some progressive rear shocks.

Most of the shorty shocks, along with a lot of "stock" length shocks these day are $80 Chinese pieces that really ride like hell.
I personally won't get into handling characteristics because there a those here on the board far more versed than myself about rake, trail, etc. Said simply, you can put shorty shocks on your bike. eBay, about $100 with shipping. Might look cooler, don't know (pretty certain it won't though) if it will ride better. Then, or course, you'll look to shorten your front forks, Use this forum's search function and you'll find more than enough guidance here.
This project started in confusion and will end in disarray.
