Trimming rear brace/filling in open tube ends

So I've been trimming away at my frame to cut down on some useless (to me) brackets and chopped the back of the frame because it fit my seat poorly otherwise. But I left the back bracket in place. I was contemplating doing a rear hoop (think wrenchmonkees) but decided to just stick with my original seat plan. This isn't my frame, I'm just using it for illustrative purposes. I want to trim the frame where the red line is.



Now I am not quite sure how to plug those ends. Any frame modifiers have any suggestions? Also, I don't think that trimming the brace a little bit like that will effect it structurally, but I wanted to consult you guys first.

If I chop my frame where I was intending I believe that the rails are actually circular at that point. So I guess I could find a piece of material and use a hole saw, but there would still be a hole from the mandrel bit.

What thickness of material is appropriate? I have some 1/8" thick angle iron hanging out that I could hack up.

The I.D. of the tubing is the same as a 7/8" handlebar so hit a bicycle shop and ask the wrench to give you a couple of bar end pls.u
