Hey all, I found a great parts stash recently. Not sure what to do with the first box?  ;D

So whats a guy to do with a HA 900cc kit and a bunch of other neat stuff?

Second pic is of a late sand cast or early die cast head. looks like most of the stuff has a 9 of 69 build date.

Is the 900cc kit reasonable? Can you use it in a street ridden bike? I have to think set up properly it would be a hoot!

What to do with a 900 kit?! It'd look cool on your shelf but......... Use the damn thing!  ;D

The 900 kit will fit into the upper case half without opening up/machining the case unlike the larger ones. I had Big Jay install the new sleeves and bore them for mine. Couldn't find anyone locally that had the equipment or expertise. One thing you should seriously consider is a set of stronger rods. The stock rods begin to get iffy above 836/850. I'm also using a Mike Rieck Stage IV head for some serious HP. For my investment there is no way I would NOT use better rods.

Build it and they will fly ;D probably right through the tank!
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Sooo, concensus is to build it but not to do just the kit but to invest in some rods too.

What direction do I go for rods and how much can I expect to invest?

Big Jay can get you HIS rods or Carrillos. Maybe $300 difference between the 2. CycleX has rods too. Carrillos are lighter and stronger. Check their sites. Either would be stronger than stock and should be fine. You could even send your crank to Jay for lightening with the kit and cylinders and he can install the rods while it is there.

Won't you need to modify the rockers & cover as well, if you're going over 836cc?  Would the valve train need to be increased in size as well, to help it breathe better?

Looks like a sweet find, regardless!

Rockers and cover will be fine. Never hurts to do head work but it can get expensive. HD valve springs would be good to keep from floating a valve thus destroying the engine. With this in mind install a Gordon's frame kit so you can easily play with the top end as money permits. Don't neglect HD cylinder studs too.

:P I love how a nearly free 900cc kit turns into an easy $1000+ project...

Actually just the carillo rods are about a grand . ;D They use to just slap those kits in in the 70's with everything else stock . My K1 came like that . I think you would be alright in this configuration . Add a Mike Rieck Stage IV head and hot cam ? Better get those rods .
