Aren't there rams (goats) somewhere to hunt? I guess this isn't really the best forum to find out about hunting. I guess when I get there I'll just see if anyone wants to show me a good place to kill some beers.

Crocodile looks a bit like chicken because its nearly the same colour cooked, but roo is nothing like chicken, closer to venison than chicken, high in protein and very low fat... ;)

Just reading post and having a chuckle along the way. I also am ex-army and had friends that were into bow hunting and pig shooting. It would be fair to say with bow hunting - sign up to a local club and go from there, there's always a couple of fella's that will be into the sort of thing you're after. More than likely deer down south, but a mate here in the Hunter does go out pigging with a bow and recently got an 60-70kg boar! Getting a firearms licence can be difficult but do the training, have a clean record and in a Social Club / Land owner or Competition you should be OK. I remember in Tassie as a kid my Pop used to shoot wallabies and make home made burgers - never told us it was wallaby until afetr we'd all eaten! Enjoy you time in Oz champ!

Thanks britz! I don't think I'll try to get a gun license. I'm more of a traditional archery guy. I like shooting guns, but don't care to hunt with one anymore. I left all my guns and my r75/6 with my dad. I hope he rides my beemer some and I know he'll clean the guns.

Well, I officially leave the states Tuesday (Feb. 21st)! We get to Oz on the morning of the 23rd. My wife and I will be renting a room in a house share for the first month right by the CBD. We're going to be looking for a 2 bedroom place to stay in longer so we can have an extra room for when friends/family come to visit us. If anyone wants to meet up for a beer a couple days after we get there we'd love to meet some good people. We won't know anyone in the city when we get there, but I get pretty talkative when I drink so I'm sure we'll meet people at the pubs. Oh yeah, anyone have recommendations for a cell phone provider down under? I've looked a few up, but don't know what's good. Cheers!

optus or telstra might give you the best coverage?youll have to learn to drive on the wrong side of the car and road aswell, might be an idea to pickup a road rules book so you dont get confused, hey terry do you still have to do that stupid right turn from the left lane thing in melbourne?

I drove around the south island in New Zealand, so I can handle the wrong side stuff. I don't think I'll be getting a car anytime soon though. My wife doesn't like driving in the first place, and I'd rather just have a motorbike. I'll probably start looking for something in a couple months. I'd like to find a cheap project to work on at Terry's place if he's still willing. How dangerous is bicycling in Melbourne? We may get a couple bikes at first. I'll look up some traffic and biking laws.

Will do Stev-o. I'll probably post heaps of stuff in the Northwest Arkansas Breakfast Club thread. That's a group that got started on here. We rode together often. I may start some sort of travelers thread in the Open Forums too. Hopefully I'll get into some fun stuff that others would be interested in seeing.

dont forget radam you cant just drink water straight out of the tap here you have to boil drinking water for an hour first, then add malt, hops, dextrose, let it cool then add yeast, wait two weeks then you can drink it.

I was very disappointed by the toilets. Like Retro said, no swirl at all. You push the button and it just goes down.

Dave, my wife and I are already familiar with that type of water purification.

watch out for these animals, they hang around at backyard barbeques,,theyll climb down from the trees all freindly then stick their trunk into your beer glass and empty it,its called a bludger bear.

the cock fighting dog is illegal now and you probably will not see one, dont try and pat one if you do though, ever.

Almost as scary as the old hag my wife and I had a run in with at a coffee house today. We went to a coffee house with free wi-fi because the internet here at the flat share isn't the greatest. We started to have a Skype conversation with my inlaws when this evil old woman gets up and on here way out tells us, "I understand why everyone hates you Americans and wants to crash planes into your buildings. You come in here and start screaming, bothering everyone." At first I thought maybe we were being a little loud, but that still doesn't call for the way the woman spoke to us. Just after she left the girl working the shop asked us what had happened. We told her, and she said that the old lady comes in all the time and that she's always very rude. That made me feel a bit better. We really weren't any louder than two people having a conversation. She's the only person we've met who's been nasty. The girls working there were very kind and assured us we weren't being rude. So far we've met a lot of nice people.
