Rear set brake linkage...will this work?
« on: April 19, 2011, 07:07:42 AM »
Here's how we connected the rear set on the brake side on my KZ250. It's been suggested that the arm on the outside of the brake pivot...the arm my linkage attaches to...may be too short and not provide enough leverage. The arm on the inside of the swingarm is the stock length.

I haven't ridden the bike yet, but the linkage feels great and I can easily lock the rear brake up. That's with someone trying to spin it on the centerstand, not going down the road at 50 mph, though.

Think I'll have an issue here?

 1) Cut stock brake lever/pivot.

 2) Attached rear set linkage.

 3) Complete set up.

if it works it works,
but i think it looks like your a little short on leverage,
in general you would want a little more distance from the brake lever pivot point to the point where the linkage connects .
     i have 2.5" on mine
Funny thing about regret is...... its better to regret something you have done than to regret something you haven't done.

Is it the angle of the picture or does your rearset sit lower than where the stock peg location?

Would the pivot point be the centerline of the post that the pivot assembly slides onto? That would be the acorn nut in the picture. If you're calling that the pivot point, then I'd say I have close to 2.5" myself. I can get some measurements.

It's the angle of the picture. It may be ~1/4" lower than the stock peg location, but it has to be that way to make all 6'1" of me fit on this tiny bike.
We used the stock foot pegs (that attach to the underside of the frame on a KZ250) as a reference point when fabbing up the rear sets. The brake/shift lever hang a tad low, but I can lean the bike WAY over before they drag. If you ever see me leaning the bike that far over on the road, go ahead and call 911, 'cause I'm going down!
