CB750 ride height
« on: May 09, 2011, 09:53:48 AM »
The PO of my bike (CB750K5) changed a lot of things. He liked to do long distance touring and even some towing. Vetter fairing, highway bars, Goldwing handlebars and a 17" back tire. I think he may have also changed the height of the rear shocks. I'm 5'10" and 165, and my feet don't rest flat on the ground. Just the balls of the feet are touching. Should my feet be resting flat on the ground with stock suspension? The guy I bought it from was maybe 5'7" 145, so I don't know how he did it...

I'm not near the bike so I can't measure the shocks, but I understand 13" is stock. I'll measure it up on Tuesday.

I don't know about your bike. I have a 78 750f that I put 13" shocks on because I wanted it to be taller. I'm 6' with a 34" inseam though. I can sit flat footed now. My knees were bent before. I know you can get some short shocks from cycle-x for cheap, but they are a bit stiff. I bought the 13" ones from them. Here's pics of before and after.

I have about a 33" inseam and can flatfoot both sides with riding boots, if you skootch up to the front of the seat and stand.

Its a very tall bike, by any standard (high seat height that is). With a 31" seat height (see link), and the seat width factors in there. So with a 32" inseam, you'd have 1 foot on the ground and one foot on a peg, and slide a bit to the side of the down leg. Cuz the seat is 4-5+ inches wide.

That's natural.

I had the same issue.  When I bought my K7 it was set up for 2 up touring.  13" shocks that were sprung for King Kong, and a mountain of a seat.  Now, I'm 5'6" and I have an inseam of 30" if I stretch.  I had to tip toe the bike.  Not safe at all.

So, I did some research and hit up Hondaman for some tips on how to make this monster motorcycle more my size.

First step, get a good seat.  If you have one of those Corbin King/Queen sofas on there now, think about getting rid of it.  I found a stock seat that made all the difference.  Next,  I got a set of Hagon shocks that are a little over 12", and spring for my 150lb self.  That is the key, get them sprung for your riding plan.  I'm all solo all the time so I didn't need a heavy spring.  That was key to getting a good ride.
Here are a couple of pics.  I know in the first one, the bike is on the center stand, but you can still see the difference.

Eagle eyes!  The air box is out for a fresh coat of Rustoleum Trim and Bumper Black.  Look for it to make a return in my project thread. http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=87705.0  ;)

Will the center stand still work with these short shocks?  I had lowering blocks and could never get it up on the center stand.

It will be harder. Also it will stand up more on the side stand. They both can be modified to work.

How about a photo or two of your bike?  I am 5' 7" with a short 29" inseam  and can put the balls of my  feet on the ground when I slide forward.  I have a 73, 74 and 77 CB750K-the 74 with the Corbin seat almost allows me to flat foot at a stop...Larry

Thanks. It's got a bunch of different names. Some call it a Viper fairing, bikini fairing, cafe fairing... It was on my bike when I bought it and I haven't found a brand name on it. I've taken it off before but those gauges ::)

Thanks for the replies all of you.

The bike is at a buddy's shop, so I don't often get to see it right now. I was on it again a few days ago, and I think I can flat foot it (or pretty close) if I squeeze my legs together a little bit. Must be the fat seat. mrjack, I do indeed have one of those king and queen monsters. A friend of mine is an ex upholsterer, so I might see if we can rip the fabric off, shave down the foam, and make a new cover.
