Around here, if you hit a deer, technically you're supposed to call the sheriff who picks it, and it gets fed to the inmates. My wife hit a deer on a backroad once, she pulled over as she was somewhat shaken by it, moments later a coule guys in a pickup stopped and asked her if she was gonna keep it. She said no, and they promptly tossed it in the back of their truck...
I think the IL "law" is good, but I had to laugh...gotta get a permit, and you can only pick 'em up if it's in season? geez.....don't wanna see no one get busted for picking up roadkill out of season..

might see more states start doing that as more and more folks have less and less money to go grocery shopping with. Gotta lotta possum and raccoon around here...
