So I decided that the next step in my evolution as a home made computer tech was to built a new one from scratch. I have swapped motherboards from one case to another and stuff like that before, done total software reloads, upgrade systems and O/Ss, so why not do a new build?
Well, the documentation is a bit overwhelming, and I don't exactly what to do next. I got it all together, and it looks great. I'm afraid to put power to it. It doesn't say, in plain language, what needs to be done. Instead, it talks about all the nifty things you can do to the BIOS, and most of it above my head. I originally thought it would be just a simple set if instructions about the order of software installation. I realize that it is a new build, so the BIOS will need some attention, but isn't that what the disc of drivers is for? I'm thinking O/S first (in this case Windows 7), then the drivers (disc that came w/ motherboard). Am I wrong? Most of my prior work has been done on dead machines that I have managed to bring back to life, and were at no cost to me. But this has cost me over $400.00, and I don't want to let the secret smoke out of it at the starting gate.
Not that it matters too much but here it is;
1. Gigabyte motherboard w/all the neat hook-ups including HDMI and USB 3.0
2. Intel Core 3 w/ 3.2ghz and Hyperthreading, and HD graphics capable
3. 500 watt power supply
4. 4 GB ram
5. Blu Ray drive w/Lightscribe
and 2 pieces I had already;
6. memory card reader
7. DVD drive w/ Lightscribe
This is to be the computer at the biggest HDTV in the house, and will serve as as media center of sorts. I hope you guys can come to the rescue. I can't wait to see it on the big screen.
