They still need to be balanced.  And MC shops do that after mounting.

ya i was wondering about the balancing part too. do they put weights on the rims like they do on cars? i mean the rubber is fresh and if you rime is straight what do they do to balance it?

balancing would be cheap wouldnt it compared to balance and removing and mounting the tire?

any work on some good tire sites that are reputable and cheap for the above stated tires?

Search around on the internet and ebay, but you probably won't do much better price wise than americanmototire.com or motorcycletire.com or . Cheapest new tires you can buy seem to be Duro, which come in inch sizes and have a very cool looking classic bike tread -- clearly they're not as good as more premium brands but I'm not sure if they are so bad that you'll die riding with them. www.siriusconinc.com has duros for $100 front+back. If you go toward $140 a set, you can start to find the IRC GS-11 or the Bridgestone Spitfire S-11, which a lot of people here run. Remember to budget for new tubes and rim strips (or a roll of duct tape).

They put weight on either the rims or the spokes near the rim.

Call some shops and ask about just balancing.  You'll probably find out they either won't want to do it, or will charge the same as mount & balance, as they are accepting liability by taking on the work.

Prices will vary with the shop and how much business you bring to them.  Most don't want to cater to skinflints.

If you should decide on inch size tires, many don't stock them as they are slow moving merchandise.  If you deal locally, they will order ahead of time and may give you a break on mount and balance, including it int eh purchase price.   You are trading off rock bottom price for having them mount and balance for you.   It is usually cheaper to bring wheel to them, which they usually don't mind.  That is certainly cheaper for both of you, rather than having them take the wheel off the bike and reinstalling it, too.

You probably should dismount and remount the tire on your existing rims just for the experience.  It will make you appreciate what you are paying for at the shop.  And, it is good to know how to do it if you are out in some desolate place and are forced to fix the tire or walk.

If you have a good shop in your area, it is worthwhile to build up a rapport with them.  If they know there is future business, they will be more likely to offer deals.  They get pretty good at spotting those that just take without any thought to their profitability, or expense of doing business.

Personally I didn't balance the tires on my last bike or the current one. I didn't notice any vibration on either one, and the FJ had about 5k miles on the tires when I sold it with no obvious odd wear patterns.

On chrome spoked wheels like ours I think they attach the weights to the spokes (at least that's where I found a weight on my bike when I changed the tires).
