Not sure what I missed more...wrenching or riding.
« on: June 13, 2011, 07:33:38 AM »
Well, after 3.5 years of being without a motorcycle...enough is enough.  I've decided to get back into riding, and have been enamored with vintage sportbikes for quite a while before stumbling across this site.  Thanks to everyone here for an informative and FRIENDLY community. (yea...I've been lurking for a while  ;) )

I started riding about 8 years ago, but haven't ridden at all in the past 3.  I moved across country and was forced to sell my last 2 bikes...a CBR600rr that was a track-only bike, and my 07 Triumph Speed Triple.  I had ridden a couple other sportbikes up to that point, but quickly fell for the naked look of the Speed Triple, which eventually got me into watching some of the vintage races when they were on the track for the weekend.

So...I ended up picking up a 1978 CB 750F.  It runs, but definitely needs at least a carb rebuild to get things sorted.  I didn't see any sure signs that it needed a top end rebuild, but I'm getting a compression test done (hopefully today) just to be sure.  It's basically running lean once the bike warms up.  It cold starts just fine, and can get up the road, but once the engine warms up and you turn the choke off, it dies  :(

Got a good enough deal on it though, and I'm honestly just as excited to start wrenching as I am to be on 2-wheels again.  I mean, riding's great...but it's SO much more satisfying taking a bike out for that first run after you've torn it apart.

Anyway, just thought I'd say hello.  I've seen a few other old Honda's around the Denver area...so I know you guys are out there.  Don't be afraid to say hello...I'll be the guy on the ratty 750F with 2ft of dreadlocks hanging out the back of the helmet.  :P
