"I have never seen a bike that old in person before"
« on: June 15, 2011, 01:53:11 PM »
Don't some young riders have a way of making you (not only your ride) feel old?  I'm as old as my bike.  I don't mind the appreciation when folks walk up to my bike in admiration, but a compliment like this has some mixed meanings when you're nearly the exact age as your bike: "I have never seen a bike that old in person before."

I was at Hooters at Tuesday night bike night.  Plenty of twenty-something year old guys.  First time I'd ever heard such a comment about my 75 550.  :o

Same with me.  I'm 4 years younger than my K1.  I don't need my bike to remind me that I'm getting older, though.  A lot of my coworkers are in their early to mid 20's.  I'm constantly making social references that they have no clue about. :(

I had a thought a while back that really put the age of my bikes in perspective.  When I was about ten years old I saw a '56 Chevy Bel Air in person for the first time.  I remember being extremely impressed by the looks of it and thinking that this car was ancient.  My 750 is ten years older than that Chevy was then. ;D

Here's a depressing fact that will make you other gen-x-ers feel old:

If the movie "Back to the Future" were made today and set in current times, Marty would only travel back in time to 1981.

I don't know anyone my age who has an interest in older bikes..., im 21, ive got a 75 550.

its funny because i find anything after 1985 no good, once unleaded fuel disappeared so did the styling of cars and bikes.

1960's is my favourite decade for cars and bikes. i was born too late haha

My bike is 6 years my junior, spooky actually.

But my jeep is only 25 years old, that rookie.

I'm 11 years older than my oldest (and favorite) bike the 1975 CB360T.  I regularly have a lady passenger who is younger than my newest bike the 1980 KZ 750H.  1980 is my cut off date for bikes, anything after that and I'm not interested.

My current bike is 2 years older then me, my CL350 is 9 years older then me, my chopper is 7 years older then me.  My dad's vette is actually the same vintage as me, here in GA that makes it an antique by about 10 years. ;)

I'm so old I'm a grumpy barsteward.
Stop using the word THEN instead of THAN. :)
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.
