76 CB750F normal blinker/signal operation
« on: June 25, 2011, 12:47:57 PM »
Sorry guys but my search and reading skills are just not cutting it today....
-
I replaced my front and rear turn signals and brake light (I know, I know....) and they all work fine...as long as I don't turn the ignition switch to "RUN" When I do that, the blinkers don't flash. Flashing blinkers won't do me much good if I can't use them with the bike on :)  I haven't tried it with the bike running since the gas tank is getting redone at the moment.

Is it normal to not flash if the ignition is set to "Run" and the bike is not running?

Awesome! Thanks for the info. Time to get the wiring all tucked back in place and get the tank done.

Chances are it's a matter of not having the right load on the flasher unit, assuming you still have the old thermal unit in there.

I replaced mine with a standard DOT-552 electronic unit, and no more flashing issues.

With the correct load it should flash down to like 11.5~ volts, regardless of whether the engine is running. If you have the wrong load in one end, it may flash too slowly or only above 13~ volts. Goofy stuff.

Truespin, that DOT-552, Is that something that can be purchased at the Auto parts store or at the Honda dealer? TIA.  ??? after 32 years just figured the gasket leaked all the oil out.

I scored mine at the local AutoZone for $6.99.

Edit: they keep them in the same aisle as the blinker fluid. ;)
