Dumb question about plugs and caps... CB500
« on: July 14, 2011, 09:44:59 AM »
ok first off: '72 CB500

It's my understanding that when I go to change my plugs that I need to buy NGK D7EA plugs (or according to some on the forum NGK D7EV for better performance) my question is thus:

What NGK caps do I need?  I would like part numbers for the two outer one and part numbers for the two inner ones.  (yes I've tried to figure it out for myself but I'm obviously having a brainfart because I can't figure it out)

Thanks!

UPDATE: My caps are resistorless so yes they'll need replacing

Are you sure they need to be replaced? They are pretty robust.

I seem to have OEM caps (and they are in good shape) but the rubber that covers the end with the wire is missing on one and these seem to be 0 resistance caps (I opened one up and the resistors are missing).

Anyway I don't want to mess around and guess what the PO did so I figured I would start with new plugs/caps and then I'd know what I'm dealing with.

Anyone know what caps I need?

I bought mine from z1 enterprises. They have a full selection of angles and lengths.

Ok listen I'll explain the issue:

My local shop (which is not a honda dealer) gets out "the big book" whenever you ask them for a part and then fumbles through "the big book" until they (sometimes) find what you are looking for.

If you have a part number then the process is quicker (and less slipshot).

The only other "local" place is 45min drive away and the service is about as good...

Those are the ones, only isn't # SBO5F supposed to be # SDO5F?
Anyway the '5' indicate they have a 5KOhms resistor inside.

Looking on Amazon I see SD05F 8022 and XD05F 8072

What is the difference between the SD05F and XD05F ?

the angled ones work fine on the inner 2 cylinders as well and give you a little more reach if your wires are short from being cut off a few times
my parts store have all the ngk plugs in one case and all the ngk boots in the one next to it
