I got all of my airbox hardware in the mail today, new wing bolts, new screws, new o-rings everything but... the gasket which is on back order.  Since the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, "back order" has become a dicey term.

On the tach seal, use a deep well socket and push the seal down into place, it helps. Those carbs look GREAT!

Yes new NEW float needles. The only thing I re-used were the slow jets because I dropped one of the new ones and it bounced off of my deck and I couldn't find it.

Thanks bjat... Actually I had a chance to take a close look at it while I was at my storage unit on Saturday and there is a chunk of the old seal still in the hole.

Thanks Alan, it's slow going since I started working M-F 8-5.  On another note, yesterday I retimed my 360 and it's amazing how much fun that little twin is when it's running right.

My gasket came today. I had cancelled my order with bike bandit and ordered another one from eBay on Saturday. I emailed the seller, hondacb750man and told him to let me know if he had any problem shipping right away to let me know.  The guy emailed me right back and said that he had already shipped it to me.  Order Saturday, get it Monday, score!!
That being said I put it all together and the straight edge of the lower half isn't straight.  There's a 1/4" - 3/16" belly in it.  The belly puts that edge way too close to the edge of the gasket.  I didn't notice it on the dry fit, because the upper edge is channeled to provide a place for the gasket to ride, of course that trues the edge of the lower half. I rigged a six way outlet adapter and a hi hat felt in the thing and I'll leave it like that till tomorrow.  I'll probably have to get the heat gun out to straighten it out.  It didn't get bent over night....

Little details....

It's a lot better but it's not quite there.  The gasket seals right but I'm afraid it will relax back after I mount it.  I'm going to let it sit like it is a few days and see how it looks.

Here are a few pics:

I'll try to get it mounted this weekend.

Thanks Steve-O BB aint so bad, they're just big and clumsy.  I appreciate you checking out my bike.  It seem like everything I try to sort out on this thing ends up leading to another issue.  My tach seal is giving me fits, the old seal isnt in the well but the tach cable only goes in all the way if I leave the new seal out.  Yeah I know it seems like the old seal is in there but the hole is empty except for the stem from the tach gear.

Use a small tool to dig in there and be sure there is no seal

It has to be in there.  Another forum member told me about doing the same thing and that his seal was somehow aluminum color instead of black.  I have however dug and dug in the hole with a pick tool.  Im going to try a #1 straightblade screwdriver and a hammer to see if the screwdriver feels like it is sinking into (hardened) rubber.

It was in there. And it leaked because it was backwards.  The flat side was out, at least that's how or makes sense to me..... Anyone?

I had to push it out into the hallway at the storage place to get to it.  I'm headed to take my tools from the storage place to my shop so I can get going on my 650.

Chewed up side.

What I think should be the outside.

Neither the Honda Shop manual or the Clymer, specify which side faces out, but on the CMSL online parts fiche the illustration appears to show the solid side facing out, which is how I found my leaky one and how I put the new one in. No leaks since. Clymer does recommend using two long narrow screws to remove the old one, which you couldn't do with the open side facing out.

Thanks Bomber.  I'll go with your recommendation.  I have the seal for the 750 here in front of me.  The 650 needs one too.  It's the same seal but the gear and housing come out.

I put my new seal in the same way the old one came out. Smooth side towards the cam. No, leaks so far ~500 miles.... ;)

oops somehow I managed to lock this thread... regardless I fixed that.

I haven't really touched this project since last week.  I'm curious as to which way the manufacturer says the seal faces.  I'm going with Brown Bomber's recommendation, only because I've actually met him and seen two of his bikes.  call it geographical discrimination.

Once I get the tach cable back in and the airbox mounted I'm going to move on to the two things that are really bothering me.....

The oil tank drain or oil tank leaks.

AND

The front brake is non existent.  The PO said he rebuilt the MC but when I opened the cap there was brake fluid in the topside of the diaphragm.  To me that says volumes about the guy's abilities as a mechanic... he owns a seemingly successful Honda AUTO repair shop... scary!

I had to swing by the storage unit to pick up my tool box so I put my seal in place while I was there.  Pretty easy using a 10mm nut driver and gently tapping it in place.  I'm thinking of moving the stuff in storage to the shop and picking up more space there.

Thanks Stev-o I bled it once but it didn't act like it should, it pumped into the tube of my bleeder tool but wouldn't pump out enough to reach the valve.  I haven't gone back to it yet but that's my next step after I finish the stuff I have disassembled.

I took my 750 to my shop today and moved out of the storage place, I wont really be rolling anything in for out for awhile so I can save a few bucks by renting a Little more space from Loud and Clear instead of the storage folks.  I was able to examine the oil leak while the bike was up in the air on the trailer and it looks to me like just the crush washer is worn out.  It's the same washer as the oil pan on the 750 the 650 etc etc and I have a few at my shop so I can sort that out on Monday.
