Andrews Blue coils ?
« on: August 27, 2011, 11:23:19 PM »
Anyone know what ohms they were ? Just got an old set.
I know I used the orange Andrews with points on my 750..
I am sorta thinking blue is for electronic ignition.

I was an Andrews dealer, wish I still had some old catalogs..

As an artist it is known that many people will say something is green and another person will say no., it is blue.

That is because all people are blue/green or red/yellow colorblind.
That means that when one person says "That is a real RED fire engine and another person will say it it is more of a orange red fire engine."

Frank I just dug out this old Andrews coil instruction sheet, here's what it says... you know we should save this info to the archives.

Blue - have 45 degree angle mounts  KZ 650 and 900/1000 with stock or electronic ignitions. Impedance 3.0 ohms.

Black - have 45 degree angle mounts  KZ CDI only .6 ohms

Red - mounting holes inline with spark plug outlets fit Suzuki 4 cylinder with stock or electronic ignitions. Impedance 3.0 ohms.

Grey -  mounting holes inline with spark plug outlet fits Suzuki 4 cylinder CDI only .6 ohms

Rust - mounting holes 90 degrees from spark plug outlets fit Yamaha XS11 and some of the newer Honda 4 cylinder engines with stock or electronic ignitions. Impedance 3.0 ohms.

White - mounting holes 90 degrees from spark plug outlets fit Yamaha XS11 and some of the newer Honda 4 cylinder engines with CDI only .6 ohms

Orange - vertical mounts fit Honda 4 cylinder engines with stock or electronic ignitions. Impedance 3.0 ohms.

Green - vertical mounts fit Suzuki or Honda 4 cylinder engines with with CDI only .6 ohms

Green, Black, Grey, and White coils on CDI ONLY. Their low impedance on a conventional system might result in excessive primary current.

Because the new coils have more voltage than stock coils, sparkplugs can be regapped to .035" (.9mm)

Before the Mallory sprint mag, it had the Dyna III & Andrews orange coils. With blue braid on the plug wires of course.  ::)
That Dyna got replaced when it lost 2 cylinders while I was warming up for the Division 6 team race (held in Seattle that year). I quickly drove to a pals house close to the track and took the points plate off his street bike, brought it back, got it installed and timed and made the first round. Ran good too except for that pesky red light...

Doing a photo shoot of the new paint up in Spokane this week, but it's of the funnycar. Ron Sellars (2001 AHRA TA/FC champ) is doing the full-on custom paint for the 'cuda. No vinyl, all hand lettering. Hotbyk my blue wheeled turbo terror still sits here annoying my wife.  ;D

You may remember Dana Winters from the old Spokane Dragbike races, Kawi 750 wingdingers (about a dozen of them) I saw him as we pulled onto the starting line in Boise last week, he's shooting pics. Got his card, he still has those triples too.
Funny how those 2 wheel race days of long ago still has me running into guys we raced against. And those of us who play with 4 wheels now still rave about the fun of the bike days.
