Makes me want to have a go at some straightlining, especially as I've discovered over the last ten years of racing that I really don't go round corners that well

Congrats that is awesome and I must say the bike looks awesome. Sad thing is I was going to head up and check out the runs that day but a co-worker called in sick and I got stuck at work.

Thanks Sam and everyone!  My team was great and all went as planned. I think the real highlight of the event was hearing the FM Radio announcer describe the bike and give credit to my sponsors (no money but a big help). It was also very kind of the competiton to praise the bike and concede after 2 attempts to go faster.  Pushrod bikes in the smaller cc category are becoming popular. When the mandatory tech-inspection was underway, the scrutineer was amazed at the size of the valves and the piston rise of 2.5mm above the deck. We ran an 11-inch intake from the mouth of the 29mm Mikuni to the valve seat. On the first run I lost power at the 3/4 mile in the timing zone so we raised the float level. Who would have thought that a 201.44cc motor would use that much fuel?!

Plans are already underway for a larger bore and a small fairing to also run in the partial streamliner category. The BUB Speedtrials are becoming an international event. I met riders from Denmark, England, France, Australia, New Zealand, and of course several from Canada. If you ever venture out to the salt flats remember this...........don't wear loose shorts unless you want a sunburn where it hurts!

Dennis, just for comparison, here are the records from Maxton.
I don't know what the bike was (might be a full 250, C15 BSA perhaps) and I'm not sure what the altitude is at Maxton. I'm sure the Cub would run faster given better conditions than at the salt flats.
These speeds are only one way though and are recorded at the end of the Standing mile.

The altitude at the salt-flats is about 4,300 feet but when adjusted for humidity and temp it can range up to 7,000 feet or more.  My fastest one-way time was 83.676 in the mile and 83.937 in the kilometer with a slight tailwind.

Maxton is now closed and Loring in Maine has opened with a longer runway. Yes, I know the Cub will go faster at low altitude and a solid surface.

I did see a Red Rickman sohc 750 on the salt.....................the rider is a lurker on this site.....................he was running in the 120s.............too many things going on at the time to get his handle.  Now the work begins to get a few paying sponsors for future events............too bad this little chasis won't hold a sohc/4 motor.

Scott is an active member of the forum. I did a lot of work on that head and supplied a great deal of tech assist. There were a good amount of challenges and a short time frame. He will be better prepared next year for sure.

Regarding the Bucket List;  I think the speed trials at the Bonneville Salt Flats ranks right up there with the TT which is on my list to visit.  I know there are dozens of other well established and premier events in the motorcycle world..........Daytona; any FIM GP event; the Springfield & Indy Mile Flat-Track events; the Barber Vintage Festival; the Las Vegas Auction; AHRMA events; the AMCA Cheif Blackhawk meet in Davenport; are all on my active list..........

But the BUB meet on the salt flats is the ultimate challenge for speed with minimal risk to the participant. I watched the chute fail on a streamliner at 360MPH and all was well after a 5.5 mile coast-down.

Yeah not like the dragster at the local track that went off into a rocky ravine at about 120mph.. (Stuck throttle).. dont know how bad he ended up..
 We should mention here that BUB is probably one of the MOST AFFORDABLE premier bike events on the planet.. for spectators.. so if you cannot make the others, this may be in reach.. plus BIG PLUS.. its back to bck with Bonneville GP a hunderd miles away.. did you get there, Dennis ?

What speed did you reach Scott, were you chasing a record or just out for fun?

I was chasing a record in my class running AMA. The record is 148.272. My fastest run was 124.023. This was a huge learning curve. I have never built a bike and engine with the purpose of a LSR. With the help from Mike and many on this forum I actually went out there and gave it a good try. Overall I am very pleased with the results.
I will be back next year and this time I hope to get much closer to the goal at hand.  I must admit the best thing about going to BUB is the fantastic people all chasing a dream and still having time to help anyone in need. It is something to experience and enjoy! I recommend BUB to anyone for the best time of their lives!

Altitude was a very big deal on the salt. The track sits at about 4200 ft. My first run was a disaster because I was running way to rich in the mid range. So rich in fact I could not get past the mid range and on the mains. After re-jetting I finally got to the mains and after some hot runs got the jetting on the 31mm Cr's dialed in. I ran 115's on the mains and that did the trick. I did have other issues that I had to sort. My #4 spark plug was hitting the piston but only when the engine was hot. An index washer fixed that problem, but ended up having electrical connection problems on 2 and 3 going to my Power Arc Ignition. I did not realize how fast salt gets everywhere and the only solution is protection with dielectric grease on every connection. As for dynamic testing prior to going to the flats I had very little time. My Arias pistons arrived a bit late and I had just enough time to smooth the tops, lighten them by a few grams and reclay before putting the bike in the trailer and go. Not a perfect scenario. When I do this again I will rent some Dyno time in Salt Lake and get some of the basic jetting issues out of the way.
I would love to see a new record taken by an old SOHC 750.
