Not very long on the Rickman about 2 years. I bought with the intent to race it at BUB. However, I don't think I will do that again, this bike is way to beautiful. I am in the process of tearing it down to get ride of all the salt. I can not believe where this salt ends up, wheel bearings, brake calibers, and just about all the electrics. I understand that El Mirage is even worse when it comes to small particulate dust. I would recommend anyone wanting to run the salt to use plenty of heat shrink and dielectric grease and tear the bike down ASAP to prevent corrosion. This Rickman will be retired from the salt, but another frame is already in the planning stage. Running Special frame, partial streamliner gives you lots of options.

The salt gets everywhere but dissolves with water..........a good ride in the rain or a lawn sprinkler will solve most of it. I cover all electrics with silicone spray and the rest of the bike with WD-40. PAM is also recommended but the electric streamliner had a problem with it when the front disk brakes began to smoke and filled the cockpit.

A custom frame similar to what the Concrete Kid (B50) ran with a very sleek fairing will get you some speed. Take a look at the Tom Mellor build. Regarding the Dustbin type of fairing, they are only permitted on vintage bikes that came from the factory with one...........Norton and one of the Italian racers seem to be the only contenders.

The landspeed rules regarding motor displacement are very strict about size. Only the vintage (pre-1956) classes are allowed a slight over-bore.

Thanks Old Scrambler great information. Looking at the article on Tom's build was very insightful. I am sure I will reread this many times to get a scope of what his thought process was on the frame build and overall approach. I do have a frame gig at my disposal but understanding the geometry of the frame is yet another learning curve. We don't have a problem with salt in the UK, all our records are set and broken on airfields.
The bigest problem we have is not the length of the airfields but the rules for the classes.
We only have one rule and that is capacity. No class M, A, N, PS, S, A, B, G, F, V, P, 2, 4, Your list of classes is endless.

Looks like the class would be P-AG-1000. P production frame, AG for modified gas and 1000, because anything over 750 is put in the next higher class.

Mike if you ran 71mm pistons that brings you to 1088cc. You would have to run in the 1350 class. From what I understand and this makes no sense at all. They look at the exhaust as a part of the frame not the engine mod. So in your case it would be M-AG-1350. Record is M-AG-1350,171.735, Snyder, T, Suzuki, 2009. These Suzuki's sure like LSR racing and by the looks of it do pretty well.

Bill, I am assuming you would change your exhaust from stock. You are now in the M-AG-750 class. M for Modified frame. Modified because you changed the exhaust . This exhaust thing makes no sense to me. Record is M-AG 164.813 Broomall, J Suzuki 2008

Scott...71mm isn't 1088cc with stock stroke.

Here is something interesting...If you decided to run fuel, which really means you do not have to fill up from the ERC truck, but you could. You would run in M-AF-1000 and the record is a bit slower. M-AF 166.362 Bartlett, J. Triumph 1974.

That would be very difficult on many fronts.

That would be pretty fast for a NA SOHC.

Agreed that is very fast. That is one of the reasons I think the special frame partial streamliner class is more interesting. There is much more you can do with the frame as well as aerodynamics. APS-AG-1000 168.139 Bartlett,J. Triumph 1975. Still incredibly fast and that record has held since 1975. That alone tells you it's a hard record to beat especially with a 2 valve per cylinder engine unless turbo charged or supercharged and that puts you into yet another class. APS-BG-1000 163.436 Bartholomew, T Kawasaki 2010. Somehow a bit slower yet.

A local guy clicked off a 200mph run with his 06 ZX10 with nitrous.. been trying since 07..
he did run 178 without NOS on the run what ya brung short track.. was pretty good for what he had into it then...
after that it started costing money..
