Hi Jaguar,

I have run the bike in many differn't specs. Started off with it as my road bike, with lights and a half fairing. Ran it normally aspirated in 750 form. Used it in sprints and made 152 mph (at 12,000 rpm - not to be recommended for long) with a piper race cam and exhaust and the head polished ( 28mm carbs, as far as I remember) 12.1 compression.

Then I took it up to 998 cc ( new pistons and liners, using a 750 block bored out and the crankcases bored to match). 2mm oversize stainless inlet valves were installed ( standard exhaust valves), S&S race valve springs and the head flowed to match.

Result, 161mph with the half fairing at the end of a kilometer. Used the bike in this form for 2 road races and then sat on a wall to watch Irish landspeed records being set by Danny Keany, OWOI 750cc works Yamaha ( 167 mph) and by Vivian Candy in an Arrows F1 car ( 169 mph).

Felt that I could do better than that and then got serious.

The concept was to keep the weight down, have very efficient streamlining and produce more firepower than anything else running in my country at the time and run it all on a low budget. The only way to go was turbo (modified ATP Rajay FF40) and why not add nitrous for good luck as well? ( In reality the nitrous never worked out. At about 190mph I used to hit the button but the clutch always slipped. A 2 extra plate racing clutch, the best available then, was used but, no good with the nitrous. A nice lock up would have been the thing to have but, not available then. The streamlining proved efficient and it ran 165 - 166 with no boost ( about 80 BHP). Compression 9:1.

I will post some shots of the internals and the mechanics in the near future. If you have specific questions - just ask.

Good luck.
A progessive feed unit would have worked well too. I had the same problem with my FJ1200 with nitrous.
That 165MPH with 80 HP is very impressive.

Hello TG. Unfortunately I have no pics with the fairings off at present. However I will take some for you and publish them in the next week.
Have you actually turbo'd a Guzzi. I had an 1100 sport some time ago. Visited your area recently - Monza - multo bene.

Good luck.

I actually work in Monza, a couple of miles from the track. and yes, the city is rahter nice, hope you had a chance to see the historic center, palace and park

not turboed my le-mans III just yet, it's just  a nickname, but if i did forced induction, i'd go with the supercharger kit that a german guy builds. check out  www.kompressor-guzzi.de

Hi MReick,

Yes, progressive would probably have done the job but unfortunately a system was not available then.

I have an FJ also, with progressive. Great minds think alike.

Good luck

Hi Sam,

For my sins, I have 2 FJ's, one a nitrous powered drag bike and the other a streetbike with the engine and nitrous close in spec to the drag bike. Both are 1200cc.

Won the Irish Championship with the drag bike a few years ago. Here all races are on closed public roads.......interesting, lots of fun.

Dodger, Welcome my turbo brother !   ;D   I really dig your turbo cb750.  Great work !    8)    I also have a
turbocharged cb750.  Here's some pics of mine........

I know that fairing really helps because it's hard to hold on to mine at 150 mph.   :o

Hello Blue71 turbo. Wow! that is a smart machine. Beautiful bike, well done. Great fun, I am sure. I like your ignition system and the SU carb.
My friend, Denis Collins, ran an SU on a Kawasaki 1000 turbo and it worked really well.

Good luck.

"Show me your timing slip" should be the answer to all in the saloon who try to tell us how fast their bike is.

Thanks Sam for the new old news.........if you mention motorcycles to the press in the US they still run away!

Sam. ;)

I would really think so.  My bike's frame and suspension would have to be modified more along with a special fairing to maintain that speed !   :o    The engine would make it there easy.    ;)
