1978 CB750F Shock Question
« on: October 10, 2011, 01:06:39 PM »
Does anyone know if Honda ever use an eye to eye shock for the 1978 CB750F?

I purchased a stock set from eBay and have found the clevis portion to be too wide.

Another possibility is that the P.O. changed the swing arm from another bike that wasn't a CB750.  Just trying to figure out fitment.

I will post pics of what I am dealing with.

thanks

Eye on top, clevis on the bottom, on all years and models I know of.

So do you think I just have the wrong shock?

Could it be the swing arm is off another model of Honda?

The width of the bottom mounting point for the shock on the swingarm is approximately 12MM thick

Checked the shock at the clevis, measures 3/4" also. I knew the clevis should fit flush with swingarm mounting point.

Any proposed solutions? I was going to order a set of aftermarket shocks, probably progressive. They are eye to eye, correct?

Still wondering what P.O. did to swing arm mounting point

After looking at pics in the service manual and taking a closer look at the swing arm, I think I have determined that the P.O. might have ground down the shock mount on the swing arm.  I purchased the CB750F from a gentleman that turned it into a bobber with shock struts.  He must have ground down the mounting points to fit the struts that he had on.

I think I will just fabricate some sort of spacer for the shock clevis that will help it to mount better.  Its always a surprise when working with 30+ year old motorcycles.

Any feedback would be deeply appreciated.
