Keep up !

Looks like a nice build of good quality !

Did you buy the caliper bracket polished ?
Since you just mounted your steering damper, do you know the stroke length needed ?

Keep it up, looking forward to see more picture of your progress !

Thanks!

I polished the bracket myself.  The stroke length on the damper is about 90mm, which juuuust works lock to lock.

I also tore the forks down to repolish, replace seals and install emulators etc.

Are you running both progressive springs and emulators ?

Please ! Take a look and give me feedback in my project thread, its much needed :)

No, that's the tear down pic - there were progressive springs in there.  I went with straight springs and emulators for the rebuild.

Thanks!

By way of update, I'm currently waiting on my motor from CycleX.  It might be the easy way out, but I've bought some peace of mind for now.  I still have the old motor, which runs, so I think I'll save it for a build project later down the road and just give it a good cleaning over the winter.

I've also picked up a 1971 Kawi F7 enduro which I plan to strip and make into a super light little street bomber, so that's eating up a little time too.

A few pics - it's currently at my brothers place and I'll get my hands on it next weekend.

Gonna have to do something about those forks.   ;D
And the missing petcock, and carb cover, and headlight, and so on and so forth... Good times.

Quick update, and a plug for "the architect" from our very own SOHC4 board.  I picked up one of his gauge relocation brackets, popped in some quick holes and here it is.  I love how it sits the stock gauges considerably down and forward.  At my height (6'5") I can still see the gauges really easily from the seat and I love the way it looks - low-flying.

I replaced the stock lighting with those two LEDs - a red one on the left for engine warning and a green one on the right for neutral.  I can live without a headlight warning light and turn signal lights.

Hi guys.

So, I haven't been here for a while.  I guess that's probably obvious.

I promise you, my project hasn't died.  It has, however, stagnated something fierce.

As you know if you've read this thread, I decided to have my engine built by Cycle X - so I ordered a Street Fighter package from Ken.  That was in November 2012.

After a year and a half of trying to get this motor, I am ready to call it quits (on Cycle X, not the bike.  I WILL build this damn bike.)  Fortunately, I have not laid out any cash, and they did not demand a block exchange, so I have my original motor on a crate in my house.  However, I am beyond frustration.  I was initially quoted "about 2 months" by Ken - after 3 months I called, and was told they were no longer building engines, but that mine was ordered before the cutoff so it was in progress.  Great.

At 6 months, I called again.  I was promised Ken would call back; he'd had surgery and was out of the shop, but the motor was in progress.  Fine.  They said they'd send pictures.  Wonderful.

8 months, no pictures, no call.  I phone them again, same response - lots of assurances, lots of "It's almost ready!", yada yada yada whatever.

Now we are at 18 months.  I phoned them this morning.  Same old story, same old BS.  They SWEAR they will call me this afternoon.  I really, sincerely doubt it.  I have been fed every excuse - from "staff turnover" to "we're building in batches" to "we misplaced your number."

If they don't phone me today, this is done - and I think I have cut them a ridiculous amount of latitude by waiting this long.

I suppose it's probably time to man up and try building the engine I have, or find another builder.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Well, an update.  I actually got a call from CycleX this week, which was never, not once, happened before.

They told me that the motor should be on the test stand next week, and after that, it's just a matter of choosing my finishing (cylinder and cover colors, ignition, etc).  All that, for only 18 months of waiting!

I wonder if I should pester them for some sort of discount, heh.
