wow - interesting lines on the tank - nice tie-in to the rear fender. I think that is going to turn out great.

i think that i over thought the seat pan a little , but i was making sure there were no "bottom out" issues

this is the OE seat foam , shaved with a 4"angle grinder with a 40 grit flap wheel on it

......and after all that work ...... i dont like it , .... it just didn't turn out how it was in my head

... at the very least it needs some fine tuning , but i may end up scrapping it and starting over ....
(it is comfy though

What if you added some stitching across the seat to give it a little texture? It would pretty comfy and look quite a bit different - sort of classic Brit bike.

A nice diamond pattern in the stitching would class it up. Kind of like the Architect's bike (I love that thing).

Looks like it needs to be flatter, maybe take material off the top....

Then put a some tuck n roll, or diamond stiched pattern. Looks great so far mad, keep it up.

I agree with the cross stitching pattern and possibly make it a little shorter on the lower portion. Perhaps and inch or so.

but thats why it looks so odd .... she wanted it comfy

and fancy stitching requires money , or equipment i don't have access to

i was thinkin i'd just tighten up the vinyl some more and hopefully pull the foam down , i may end up shaving like a half inch (probly less) off the bottom so it hugs the pan better

Looks like she would be able to slide off the back pretty easy. I like the bum stop idea. maybe a flatter seat with a with dense foam and a slight cup or turn up in the back, covered with some cool material.

Spikey, I have some pre-stitched brown diamond stitch leather here. I have enough that you could cover that seat easily left over from another project. It's got a distressed look to it. I'd be more than happy to send it to you if you think it'd work....

(I put the lighter on there to give you an idea or the size)

Of course its a chocolate color, so it might limit color combos, but I know how it is working on a budget!

shaved about 1/4" off the bottom , and probly just under 3/4" off the top and reshaped it , .... i like it much more now , thats more what i had in mind

i love the look of twisted square stock ...for me, it's more because i see it and know the work that goes into it . and to see it done well (by hand) isn't very common

to keep the edges sharp and clean, while twisting , you have to keep it red hot so it flows well ,
but not too hot or it starts melting and distorting

and i always stop it and turn it the opposite direction , so you KNOW it's done by hand
this piece i really took my time on , stopping a bunch of times to let it cool ,
keeping it straight was kindof a pain, but it worked out

this #$%* you can't really be taught.. it just takes lots of patience and lot of practice

How is the engine?

Make sure you run some real heavyweight oil in it and never rev hard until the engine is warm. The oil delivery in these bikes is iffy until until warm!

so really have no clue at all how the engine is... i can tell ya it has pretty good compression , but that about all i know at this point

so last week me and my boy went on a mission , we traveled north, deep in to the middle of freakin nowhere wisconsin , to meet up with member Hoodellyhoo . so i could take one CL450 with not bent forks off of his hands ... as soon as the offer was made , and i looked at the photos of the parts bike , i was all over it ....i HAD to have the drum front wheel .

so my All Balls stem bearings finally came yesterday , so i spent most of last night slapping all that mess together

i'm pretty stoked , i'm really loving the direction this build is going , it's very different from what i usually do ... ya gotta mix it up some times, ya know

the linkage is still raw steel , originally i was gonna paint it , but seeing it on there raw, i might just clear coat it

i'm gonna use the CL450 gauges , cuz they're alot smaller and i dig the dummy lights in the faces, but i wanna keep the ignition on the dash.. so i'm using the 500T top tree .... so i had to heavily modify the gauge mount , and the end result i'm not all that happy with ... thinkin i'm gonna go back in and cut about a half inch out of it so the gauges sit a little lower , and closer the ignition mount ... so it's nice and tight
