CB500T Cafe ...."twisted love"
« on: November 03, 2011, 04:22:34 PM »
so i have scored yet another freebie ;D
same story, buddy had it sittin around , gave up hopes of fixin it up , and passed the torch on to me

not sure why this keeps happening to me, not that i'm complaining
(....this makes 4 free bikes in the past 5 years, is that weird to anyone else)

so anyway,  i've got this new girl, she's the #$%*.  low stress, easy on the eyes (and a few other places if ya know what i'm sayin)
and juuust crazy enough to keep it interesting and not wind up with any new scars  ;)

she's never ridden a bike before.. well operated one anyway .
so this build, first and foremost is about keeping the functionality relatively easy to understand , and maintain  i.e. : not hiding the fuse box so it's easy to get to on the road , leaving the battery accessible , ...and so on..  this will be a cafe but, as always, i gotta but a little spin on it , but that'll be a surprise for later

i keep going back and forth on weather or not to do pods,if i do they'll be the Uni foam type
anyway , before i get to ahead of myself i should start slappin up the pics

         the start

it has no title, but i'm told that getting that squared away is fairly easy in wisconsin
it was in a shed that was about 5 feet from a lake, for who knows how long , so it's got some mold, and is super super ratty .  but it's all there

    ..........
here you can see the bent front forks , so if anyone has a pair of 500, 550,450 fork tubes, or even a whole frontend, hit me up

and so begin's the fun stuff , once ya start choppin stuff, it's hard to stop  ;D

outted the rear pegs, the seat mount and a bunch of other tabs and brackets, then cleaned up the welds for molding
...man, those were some of the ugliest ugliest welds i've ever seen

....oh, and here's the lucky recipient of this lovely 2 wheeled marvel

                                    .....yeah  ;D ;D

Very nice ;) ;), you certainly are the lucky one.

Oh yea,  the forks can be straightened with a hydraulic press as long as the metal isn't creased from the crash.  We did it all the time at the shop...Larry

Cool girl.

I've owned and restored two CB500T's... Really neat bikes, especially for sadists.

If it's for your girl and you want her on a safe and reliable bike, I'd highly suggest either:

A. Teach her how to replace points on the side of the road.
B. Replace the ignition system with an electronic ignition system.

Really weak area of that bike - aside from the cam followers.

Following this one - can't wait to see how it turns out!

a better look at what i'm doin in the vid , there will be more added to it later , once i figure out how i wanna mound the fender and signals

and this little gem ... smallest kick stand ever  ;D

and i don't wanna show the before on the tank untill i can show the after ... it'll either be really impressive ..or a colossal failure  ;D

this tank was in pretty rough shape .  and i've always said bondo is my Achilles' heel,  i really hate it ...but i'm good at it  :-\
this tank put those words to the test

i used JB weld as filler for this corner , the round bar is centered over a dent from the PO

i hammered the sides in a lil tiny bit , ther was a dent on the left side

it's not quite done yet , but i had to jump around a bit
.. or i woulda spent the whole time sanding , and sanding ...and sanding

now to give the seat a good perch

5/16" key stock that i grabbed from work

that was ..fun .... twice  :P

this made me think of this one time my boy was out in the garage and says
"daddy why do you have so many of those things"  (pointing at the rack of clamps hanging)

...gotta say that is genius to use the actual rear crossmember as the bum stop, it now seems obvious...but why haven't I seen anyone do this before?
