Yes, the one I have now was rebuilt by Mike. It was leaking at the nut where it mounts to the tank. I cleaned the threads real good, used some yellow Teflon. I'll check it in the morning.

I sent the one back and will order the other. The screen was OK, O ring a little worn but as you know, it doesn't make the seal but only sits between the screen and inside the tank inlet.

Uh, yellow teflon, or any teflon plumbers tape, will turn into a gooey mess when exposed to gasoline fuel; if I remember correctly. May want to research it a little.

Yes, but only if you remove the seat. That does involve quite a few steps.

I'll leave it on for the other half. When the fairing is on and the sabblebags mounted it tames it down a bit.

Do you have a big ceiling fan? There is an oscillating dark reflection along the bottom of the left side in the brightwork from the footpeg area rearwards.

All that lack of sleep, sweat, and blood shed since you bought it has been worth it as it is riding season!
The current temp here in SV is 67F at 10:40pm, daytime high around 82 down here at ~4600-4800 ft above sea level.

Take some great pics before and after the ride and gather all those receipts along with your notes and estimate the hours you have into the bike labor so far. Document it and date it. Photograph the page with the newspaper or something to validate the timestamp. Make certain it is insured for what it is worth.

Enjoy the rides, reward for the time effort and money in your CBX.

Yeah, the ceiling fan was on high.

Hours? To many.

Cost? Scared to look.

Listening to six cylinders? Priceless!

Have a slight leak at the cam tensioner bolt. Has a new o ring but still leaks. Not sure why. Might have to replace the o ring.

Right crankcase cover was leaking after sitting all night. Snugged the screws as they were a little loose. I'll leave it sit today and check it later.

Haven't posted in a while. Ran into a "wanna be" mechanic issue. For all intent and purpose this CBX is ready to ride. Or so I thought.

Checking the oil leak on the front cam chain bolt I ran into this botched job. Who knows how long this was in there,

If it can't be done right why bother.

Looking into a mirror you can see the issue..

And the bolt where the head of a screw was placed..

And the heli-coil with head of screw..

Amazing stuff right here huh?

Delay in game at this time but the folks over at CBX World have been a great help. Just like here.

New bolt arrived thanks to forum member Ray over at CBX World. STI is on it's way but the hole is hard to tap. I'll get there however.

The first picture shows correct bolt on left. Second picture shows how the tensioner works. From what I have read people just think "tighter is better" and most are stripped.

Maybe some things huh? (lmao)

I did not say anything about adding it up...just a central folder or maintenance log repository for locating the receipts and maintenance time log...
Scanning the info works too, if you back up your computer files regularly. Scanning works better with some receipts...as heat will erase a lot of receipts...or the have degrading/disappearing ink.

Bike looks and sounds great, I wouldn't kick it out of my garage, I wish I had a garage...

To repair it right is turning out to be quite the issue. Hard to explain it in a post but several ideas come to mind.

I might time sert it or just manufacture a new bolt. I have good threads into the head but it's 10/125 from the heli coil. There is two thread pitches. 8/125 and 10/125.

I like it on there. If you look at it as is, it appears to be a rider laid back and perhaps "foot steering". ( yes you have to use your imagination )

Tap it larger sounds like the correct idea, looks like there is room.

Knock off the end of the new tap after starting in as far as you can.

Take it down to the shaft then.

Take your new oversize bolt and file/grind down the last several threads and recreate the pinning tip (with locker nut on it).

Spin locker nut chasing end of new bolt. Spin back to bolt head

Measure o-ring depth, grind grove in bolt, roll on o-ring.

Install.

That is a passage this custom made bolt is going in right?
With the head on, someone has their head stuck somewhere to give tapping advice so nonchalantly.
It always scares the crap outta me when I have to try and fix a problem like this. I had to do a few of them driving 20-50 year old cars for the past 20 years...

You plan to Timesert or similar high quality insert is probably best course of action, if you can do it safely. Is the threaded hole is truely threaded and not just an illusion of what the helicoil did to the drilled out hole?

Unless you have a lathe and are skilled in its use and commonly cut threads, then I think fabricating a new bolt is problematic. I have had a machine shop class in college and it taught me to respect the skilled operators of those pieces of machinery. Even if you start from a bolt that fits the threaded opening it would be working on a hardened bolt. It can be done but, it is nothing approaching the quality of the stock fastener.

Just be patient with it (and yourself) and take your time to do it right...

APE uses longer than stock inserts on their non-economy block and head repairs, how much threaded area do you need vs. what will a std timesert provide?
