I made my own. Transistor ignition that is. Nothing special. A shameless Velleman imitation. No power increase. New plugs, yes they give a better drivability. Most people that mount an electronic ignition, renew their plugs at the same time and when they experience better drivability the EI gets the credit. Maybe they renew the plugs to avoid dissapointment.

You have an impressive skill set; I wish I had that knowledge and training. So, question: how would you create an ignition that's not RPM dependent and would retard itself under conditions of positive boost from a turbo or blower? That's one option I'd like to know more about. Any theories? RR

I have a pressure switch installed on my intake manifold, 2 lb adjustable Hobbs switch wired to a Dyna 3000 that has up to 10* Retard, Activated when boost is detected, Retard mode is not set by RPM only when boost. >>DYNA 3000 DIGITAL PERFORMANCE IGNITION SYSTEM

• 8 Selectable Advance Curves • 8 Selectable Rev limits (increased rev limits over stock) • Status LED:
Indicates power-up / Indicates pickups / Indicates TPS operation / Indicates MAP sensor operation
• Easier Starting • Plug & Ride, 5 Min. Install (most models) • Uses all Factory Sensors • Mounts Directly to Factory Location • Uses Factory Coils, or Dyna Coils • Reverse Battery Protection • Retard Mode for Nitrous or Blower Applications

Excellent info, Reg! I really appreciate the response. Makes sense to me - at least at this point. Thanks! RR

i know th
Thanks for the input so far guys. From what I hear it sounds like the Dyna systems have been plagued with some Quality Control issues as of late. Any Dyna representatives here to comment further?

It looks like few people have used CycleX's ignition as well, which surprises me a bit. I've been under the impression that they are a popular go-to shop for nearly everything.

My goals for the bike are to have a strong street machine. Not planning on racing at high speeds, but I want a strong well performing bike (70-85HP). I plan going to our local track once in a while (Hallet) and on spirited drives through the twisties south of Grand Lake (for you Okies). Otherwise I will be aggressively streeting this bike.

Any other thoughts or ideas? I've heard about Hondaman's ignition, and to my understanding it improves reliability, but how about performance?

Thanks everyone!

I know the thread has changed topic but I thought I would say I have CycleX and while it is operating without failure I must say I am a little disappointed. The reason being that you cant strobe it to know what its doing! You basically have to trust blindly that its firing when its supposed to! The timing maps are preprogrammed and depending on what wire/wires you ground you get different maps. My experiences has been that the info for which wires did what took a phone call and conversation with the owner. My bike is running but could it be running better +/- a degree or two? Essentialy you set the motor to TDC and then set the ignition until the TDC-light comes on, thats it. Not being able to strobe it and/or check advance is VERY troubling and seems like a HUGE oversight.

you could rig up and index a few marks on the other side of the crank, itll mean running with the alternator disconected, just for checking purposes?i for one would like to be able to see timing marks, however plenty of new cars dont have a single external timing mark on them,,this confuses noobs.

You can still verify timing on those new cars with computer diagnostics at least.

To bring this back on topic, I have done some thinking and last night I went on PAMCO Pete's site and ordered one of his units to replace my failing DYNA. With his 2 year warranty and his willingness to answer peoples questions made it an easy choice. I neglected to order the coils which probably have been a smart move.

In my way of thinking after 32 years you can refresh your entire ignition system all the way to the plugs. Old stuff wears out, even me. ;D
