i just use spray lube,,and wd40 or similar to clean,run the chain by spinning the wheel through a rag to wipe of excess,,,is your stereo broken?

I can only speak from personal experience and I find it works really well for me.  I do not need to adjust the chain as often and chain and sprockets seem to last longer.  I have not conducted any scientific tests but I like the Scottoiler for it's convenience.  I only need to refill the reservoir once every few months.  To keep up the same lubrication regimen I would have to put oil my chain almost daily and I'm simply not that dedicated to bike maintenence.

Might I cheekily venture that it is never in manufacturers interest to make things last longer.  I am sure there are many accessories that manufacturers also do not fit; why should they go to the extra expense if it does not benefit them directly.  Most bikes do not come with luggage carriers, a decent tool-kit, corrosion protection, etc...

these sohc hondas seem to have been lasting a while?consumables of course have in fact been developed and last longer?except gasoline!

umm...cb750 has an auto. chain oiler...or just crack your cases with a broken chain, you will have plenty of oil on your chain

Maintenance goes only a short way to helping if something is designed not to last.  If Mr Honda wanted our SOHCs to last forever they would have had put proper camshaft bearings like my BSA had and the cam would probably be gear driven.  My CB350 has big end bearings which cannot be repaired when they fail and so on.....

plenty of high milage sohc with no trouble in the cam area,plenty of bsa with worn proper cam bearings,the cb350 crank is pressed apart and can be repaired.

I use spray on chain wax. Not sure if this si right, but I hear lots of good things.

I adjust my chain while it's on the side stand. Then like back in the motocross days, I lean my chest over the seat, grab the swing arm and pull down to compress the shocks. Then I check the chain tension. If it's already too tight like this, then it's too tight once you hit a few big bumps in the road. It's harder to compress these shocks then on a moto, but it's still somewhat helpful to check for tension.

orange550...would you tell me more about that spray on chain wax? do they make different brands of it? and do you need to clean the drive chain more often while using it ? I like the idea of wax because I would think that dirt tends to cling less with it...what has been your experience w/ it ?
