Ok... just about time to get serious.
She's nice and stable on the centerstand and front tire for the last night.

Tell me about getting the engine out of this thing?

Getting the engine out isn't too bad. It helps if you have an extra set of hands. Getting the engine back in without scratching the frame just takes patience. My back isn't what it use to be, so I decided to rest the engine on its side (w/pads) to lower the frame onto it versus working it through sideways.

Here's a link to the reassembly of my 750. The first few photos gives you an idea of how the motor went back in.

Yes, take off the front wheel, loosen all engine mount bolts and then lay the whole thing on it's left side.  Some guys use an old tire to put this on.

Take off the bolts you loosened and lift the frame off of the engine.

Lay down plastic underneath everything as oil will leak out.

Watching the build.  You have a good bike to start with so things should come out fine,  On the muffler clamps, I painted mine the same color as the engine will be with high heat paint.  They are no linger chrome, but they will match the engine.  Also, I used Krylon Fusion for plastic on my air box and rear underside fender.  Soaked them all in Simple Green for a couple of days and they look like new.

BTW, you have the fastest looking floor on the forum.

Thanks much guys. On christmas eve, #1 and #3 sons helped me get the engine out.

So I'm figuring by Tuesday next I'll have the frame stripped and take it to the powder coater. And in the meantime I will start really cleaning the motor...

Best silver paint to match original?

Hope things are going smoother for you. The Holidays can be demanding. Hang in there.

Honda "Cloud Silver" is only available in touch-up paint (last I checked). I bought pretty much every kind of silver rattle can paint that had the right temp rating to compare them to a new CB750 case (yes, NOS, no engine number). Dupli-Color, Silver Caliper Paint #BCP103 is a great match, goes on well and dries quickly.

Hey guys. Merry Christmas! My first chance to get out in the shop this weekend. Still need to get the stands and the frontend off the frame.

How much prep should I do to the frame before taking it to the powdercoater? Any?

Should I take off the vin plate?
Does it come off?
Or just have em tape it off?

If you value the VIN plate, take it off. Don recently trusted hid powder coater with it and the plate was destroyed. There are two special rivits holding it on.

I haven't had to do it, but most guys grind the head off, then drill out the remains.
Here is a photo of the rivet...

Thanks Stevo!

As far as prep before powder coating; I usually check the frame over good, look for cracks, minor pits and grooves can be worked out. I had to straighten one of the down tubes (looked like someone had used it to pry the exhaust off). Ask to see their color samples. I personally don't go with gloss black, there's a shade that's not so "super shiny' that seems to mimic the stock color.

Good stuff Stev-0. I wish I would have joined this forum sooner. The VIN tag details are great!

There is a "bike black" that is a 90% gloss. That is what Harley and many other manufacturers use on their frames. It durable and looks great.

Well she's stripped to nothing. Most parts at least initially cloeaned, and everything bagged and tagged.

Next week the frame, stands, motor mounts, and battery box go to the powdercoater. I'll use that semi gloss black.

Time to strartcleaning, painting,, and polishing the powerplant. Any tips on descyzzing between the fins, 'specially the head. I won't be taking the motor apart, no need, just needa make her pretty again.

Use Gunk foamy engine cleaner and a bottle brush works great on the fins. Both should be available at your local auto pets store

Happy New Year and Good Morning!!!

So... It's 7 AM, and I gotta 3 day weekend! Other than a trip to the sisterinlaws tonight and a kinda big master bathroom to paint, I'm spending my weekend with my Honda.
Hmmm, better get dressed and have a quick breakfast!

Managed to steal an hour...
Spent it with some parts washer solvnent, 2 brushes, a pad of steel wool and a can of brakeclean. Got most of the heavy crud off the back and bottom of the motor.

Thank God once the heavy crud is gone, each cleaning will be easier. Someday it might even be clean enough for paint.
