Major disappointment tonight. I dropped the engine in and the shock bottoms right out. I spent a lot of time designing the mounts and positioning it but it's just one of those things that you can't figure out 100% until it's all together. So, it's back to the drawing board for the rear suspension and a ton of tear down, plasma cutting, grinding, measuring, fabbing and welding all over again!

Too bad, I really liked what you've done. Wouldn't it be easier to get a stronger shock? ,or design an air bag suspension, or a compressable rubber block set up ? You could be the first kid on the block with something like that.

Oh man, that stinks! I'm with RB550Four- can't you find a stronger shock? Or would that imply some serious stress on the back end?

Found the sweet spot! Moved the rear shock mount up. Good travel, allows for shock preload adjustment and I actually like the look better, tends to hide the shock more. Now I just have to wait for some more tube to arrive and find more time to fab up the mount permanently and replace the section were the mount used to be with straight tube.

I seriously love this bike. Eerily similar to what I was picturing in my head for my 650 once I get a chance to cut it up.

Been a cold and busy winter! Finally found some time and it warmed up enough so that my hands weren't sticking to the tools! Trying to get her together enough to fire her up and give it a shake down run, then I'll break it back down for paint and details.

Right now I'm considering gloss black on the frame and flat black like the tank for the tank and rear fender. Though I may go flat on the frame too. Not sure yet.

Mounted the speedometer tonight. I'm going to go without a tach.

Go gloss on the frame. So much is flat black these days without any imagination- if you look at the really sharp ones, the ones that stand out as clean, well-done jobs, you'll notice they all have a variety of textures- flat, satin, semi-gloss and gloss. It makes a serious difference.

Of course, that's just, like, my opinion, man.

Also, I dig the speedo mount. I don't think I'd do it to my bike, but I like the alternative placement.

Yeah it's shiny! It came out great!The tank, forks, fender and some small parts will be flat black so it should balance out nicely.

Tank is done...
