Thanks buddy.  So I've decided to hydrodip the tank and tail section.  I dip everything outside and the weather will not let up at the moment!

Cool.  I considered doing a carbon graphite looking hydrodrip on one of the cafe bikes.  I'm looking forward to seeing your tank and tail section after it's dipped.

I dipped the parts the other day and at first I didn't care for the look as the film was too transparent and the gold base was showing through too much.  Before I cleared the parts I decided to hit it with a few coats of tropic orange candy first.  After that I'm real happy with it as it's sort of a compromise between the wood and what I was contemplating doing before with standard orange candy/black/white graphics.  I'm going to wetsand the parts now in preparation for the graphics.  To keep it simple I will do white stripes down the tank and tail with a broad center stripe and two pinstripes on either side.  I have some RM crystal base green pearl I may throw over top of the stripes too! Plain white is, well, plain!

I like the way it looks - will look slick with the graphics.

Paint is all finished up!

spray booth until my real booth is finished (shop about 90% now!)

4 coats of clear down and sanded

the pearl is a little more subtle than I hoped, but I'm happy.

The exhaust head pipe I had was in pretty rough shape.  After everything else was back on the bike i felt it would really let it down to put that thing back on there.

I picked up a near mint ceramic coated head pipe, I believe mac 4-1 from a very cool local guy that's big into gs750 and 1100 suzukis.  I honestly don't know what the old pipe is, I don't care for it as it uses the factory collars instead of rotate-able flanges. This one should do good even though it's not brand new.

My failed attempt at a seat cushion cover.  I'm having a friend who's a very talented saddle maker and upholsterer make one for me this weekend.

it's alive!  I haven't messed with the idle screws or anything yet but she sounds pretty good already.   I put a stainless magnaflow exhaust tip on the end to finish it off a bit.  Mufflers just quiet down that beautiful sound too much  :)

I love the way the wood look came out.  And you're right, she does sound pretty good right off the bat.  Congrats on a job well done!

Thanks fellas.  The seat will get a nice comfy cushion here shortly.  had some fuel leaks after letting it sit overnight- bad petcock and carb bowl gaskets so I have some on order.

Can't tell if they're cap head or hex head. Either way. Use some button head and solve that problem...

They're studs welded to the top of the frame, so standard flanged nuts.  They recess into the bottom of the seat cushion.

The base is now foamed up with some high density closed cell saddle pad foam (1") and 1" of open cell top cushion foam.  I will try to grab a picture of it with just the foam before the vinyl cover is stretched and riveted on.  The cushion will just velcro on to the painted rear cowl.

I have a new seat cushion foamed up and covered.  Here are some pics set on the bike- once it's velcro'd on it should be a tighter fit.

New carb bowl gaskets were no good and leaking like a sieve so I'm trying to source some more that are actually rubber instead of stamped gasket sheet.

Seat is looking good!  Carbs are on my list to do - let me know if you find a good gasket source.

I haven't updated my build in a while but since my last post I haven't don a whole lot.   The bike is complete at this point and I'm working out bugs.  This past weekend I i refurb'd the forks.

copper washers were in really bad shape and leaking.  The previous owner thought it would be a good idea to seal them with rtv  ::)  anyhow I wetsanded them with 220 and 400 grit paper and they're sealing perfectly now

they were pretty well full of gunk

I know it's almost a year later, but the bike is finally finished.  Have taken it out on some test and tune and break in rides.  Pulls really hard, great sound, stops great too.  Here are a few pics  ;D
