LEAKING CARBS
« on: July 01, 2016, 08:37:51 AM »
Hello to all
I have just finished restoring a cb550k1 (done as cb500) i have a problem with the carbs they have been sonic bathed and all the jets and valves have been replaced (kits from DAVID SILVERS) the problem is number 2 carb keeps emptying the flote chamber when the bike is stood, the bike has done 8 miles since the rebuild, has anybody got any clues or will a good run sort things out when the DVLA get there act together, also the petrol tank was cleaned out and is rust free :-\

1. Tap floatchamber with stub end of screwdriver and see what that does.
2. Sometimes draining the floatchamber and refilling is enough
3. Remove floatchamber and check floatvalve for particles. Can be done with carbs in situ. Unfortunately for you it concerns #2 which means you have to do #1 as well.
BTW, I recommend changing the 4 small crossheadscrews for little ss allen bolts that are much easier
4. Whilst you're there it won't harm to unscrew the pilot jet (carefull!)and inpect it for cleanliness. No need to pull the rack.

Yes, that could be it. Polish it lightly.
