And to keep thread on topic, I have enjoyed the aesthetic of wrapped pipes. Prior to this thread corrosion and heat retention in a motorcycle exhaust had not even entered my mind. Silly me.

I wrapped pipes on my CB550 in Seattle years ago, partly because I didn't know any better but mostly because they were rusted out and I didn't know about ceramic coating. They've held up for 10+ years wrapped in the Seattle climate. I don't live in Seattle, but come here during summer and Christmas, so I only ride the thing infrequently. But my headers haven't corroded and fallen apart, and I didn't do much but spray them with heat resistant paint before wrapping. Would I do it again? Probably not. But I'm also not going to unwrap them. It's a $250 bike I got 25+ years ago, I'm just happy it's still on the road.

Putting this out there again, as it seemed to be confirmed by a previous poster's "arithmetic". I just wrapped my pipes, because I didn't know any better. Also probably wouldn't do it again, but now I have to, because 50ft was definitely not enough to do four headers on a CB350F, only one side. I did two headers and the muffler up to the mount, with a small section left over. This was after re-wrapping much less generously to ensure I had enough to finish one side, I'd say the minimum manageable overlap. After taking the exhaust off, i realized that my headers and muffler were not tacked together. I wrapped the headers, mounted the whole exhaust, and wrapped the final section (two headers and muffler up to mount) on the bike. Otherwise, mounting the headers and muffler post-wrap would have messed it up. I would recommend this if your #$%* isn't tacked or clamped together in position.

FURTHERMORE, despite not expecting any material benefit, after commuting with one side wrapped and one side raw, the unwrapped side is conclusively hotter on my leg and foot. My leg on the wrapped side was definitely happier when stuck in traffic, and that's the TRUTH RUTH.

Ah the rainy PNW. I'm up in Bellingham so typically count on wet conditions every day. Been pleasantly surprised that we have had such nice weather lately!

I'm planning on heading to Bainbridge on the ferry and ripping around a little. Been very nice and makes me glad I keep a bike up here. I've had a few trips with near constant rain and it means I don't take the bike out.

He'd say you don't need no stinkin' pipe wrap! Of course Honda chrome on stock exhausts left a little to be desired. Here, it looks like the OP is using a pretty cheap-o MAC exhaust.

I dont think Honda made the exhaust.  My 550F was def manufactured by Sankei.

So Honda did go the cheap route and used a supplier!

Honda probably always used a Vendor to make the pipes for the fours.

Sorry for veering off topic here Steve but did you know that if you scramble the letters in Soichiro you can almost spell Chorizo. In fact, in the English language, it's generally a rule that when an /s/ is trapped in between two vowels it takes on the /z/ sound so it really does work in this application. You would, however, have an i left over.  :o

Carry on.

Again off topic. When you cats were heading on that cascade loop I was on the Skagit casting as best I could on bull trout near the Sauk. Forgot my switch and ended up failing with my 6 weight and sink tip. A ride would have been nice!

I approve of this off topicness. Bull trout are one of the fish I need to scratch off my list. If I continue to enjoy motorcycling (still very new to it) I would like to plan a trip to AK during a summer vacation and take several fish off the list.

This was my first year going for lingcod in the sound here. Man no fight, but bringing up 40 inches of alpha fish from 120 feet is a task. Typically fish silvers and black mouth trolling completely under geared and they can be a fight. Fly casting I'm either on cuts or brooks in the sub-foot range which is easy casting on a 4 weight. Trying for distance while under geared with line too heavy for your rod is a task indeed. Thinking about a BC license this summer as my usual hole right under deception pass is closed for the foreseeable future.

Mmmm.  Chorizo.
I recently restored and sold a 77 cb750f, and am nearly finished with a (former basket case) cb750k5.  This is a place to share, learn and enjoy.  I am grateful to and for 99+% of this site's membership.
