New to the SOHC4's

Hello, all. I'm new to the SOHC family, but have wrenched on several bikes in the past, mostly early Honda GoldWings. I would say that I'm a sucker for inexpensive (read cheap) projects, and my philosophy is pretty simple: why buy a 'runner' that someone else has screwed up, when I can screw it up myself?  :D ;) :D Anyway, I've designated myself as the 'crew chief' on an '81 cb650 resurrection with a focus on making it a safe and dependable ride, first and foremost. I'm looking forward to participating in the gradual transformation of this bike, and who knows, I might even get to ride it once in a while, lol!

 Thanks for the welcomes. I'm having fun slowly exploring the forums and getting to know the bike a bit. It has some similar features with the 1100's GoldWings, such as the carbs and the ignition system, so I'm not entirely lost. I'm going to need some advice on stuff like the drive chain/ sprockets and engine maintenance stuff, most likely. It is a nice little (compared to the GoldWing) bike.

TrackT,

Have a GL1200 and CB550F in the stable.  The 550 feels quite nimble in comparison.  Raw acceleration the GL1200 wins.  When it comes to lifting tipped over bikes, I find the G1200 much easier to lift.

MD, I have a '76 (naked) 1000, an 1100 Interstate, an 1100 Standard project in progress, and a few more projects in waiting. I haven't bought a running, rideable bike in years, lol!
