Well, went ahead and got a F1
« on: September 28, 2024, 09:13:28 AM »
Perusing fb is dangerous! This was on the NER(New England Riders) marketplace......
Now I have to find a decent tank.....
Been kinda wanting a Supersport for a while, so now I have one. Drove the van down to the middle of Massachusetts yesterday to get it.
The motor is free thankfully. Only 12,000 miles on it. But now, I have to find a place to store it while the others in the queue get worked on.......
Original headers with a later Kerker muffler.
Retrieved the key numbers off the cylinder and ordered a couple, so I'll open the seat up when they arrive and get the tank off(roached!). The oil tank is empty so might be sumped?? It hasn't got any rash like it would if it had been down, so that's a plus. Missing the rear signals. All in all not too bad other than the roached tank and pitted chrome.... it has a sticker of a Honda shop in Maine, but I was told he bought it from someone in R.I.
It even came with a set of 750Auto carbs(maybe someone will need them) and a lightly rust inside of a paintable K1-K4 tank(might have been red).
I filled the tank with Evaporust this morning.
Back to work on the K8 ........

Congrats Stu! My favourite colour! I had an F2 back in Scotland - loved that bike! Took it the Isle of Man, TT and around France including a run around Paris/Arc de Triumph

Looking forward to seeing it running ;)
cheers

Orange points to a 75 F otherwise known as F0 not a F1. Serial number will verify that.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Yes very aware of the tank being a K0. The numbers are F1 76(frame and motor vins).
The tank may have been replaced some years ago, even when originally bought with the customer wanting the F0 Orange.

Good luck on finding a nice tank. I tried to see the color of the gauges but couldn't tell. Looks solid.

Very cool...I am working on a very early f0 (number 425!) that started out in a similar situation.  Mine came with a super gunk filled 77k tank and it's all been painted a hideous gloppy plain red.  I snagged a very nice F2 tank off ebay for $450 and it turned out it was from Ken from CycleX!  These tanks are so hard to find.  Rear brake parts are a challenge too.
If it works good, it looks good...

hmmm, yes, we did discuss the F carbs and what makes them special (or not)  I got around to cleaning them and they do have a different needle number than the usual 27201 that I have seen in every other set of round tops!  The bike has fired up and ran amazing.  Throttle response is super crisp and smooth even with the most amazingly rotten original muffler I have ever seen!...which of course spewed a huge mouse nest out the back, sides, even a little bit forward lol

Hardest parts to find are muffler and tank mate, there are a lot of uk members to possibly help but postage would be horrible

yeah, those mufflers are rare.  They are also big, ugly, really quiet, and weigh a freaking ton.  It's like the Honda engineers were alloted this much steel to make 4 mufflers and god damn right they are gonna use that much for 1!  The header is nice looking though, and seems to work extremely well.

I have a Kerker 4into1 system(a real full period correct besides what came on the bike) and also I have a new Hindle 4into2into1 System for it. Definitely a weight savings and love the sound they both have.

Nice...I want one of those Hindle pipes!  Ironically enough, after all that bad mouthin' I have been offered a decent original muffler and I just plan to sell this bike anyway.

The original 4into1 header and muffler were probably why I didn't buy the F0 in 1975 and why I instead bought the K5 I bought back then. It didn't appeal to me.
