Your subject title is a little missleading. If you need to resurface the head to flatten out the head gasket surface you should be OK. If it's the valve cover that needs work, I think your needing another.

The seats?  I really do not know.  We have the main O'Reilly's machine shop here in town and I took the cylinder head in to them to have it cleaned.  They said everything but 2 exhaust valves were alright.  They said they were going to check the seats yesterday and get back to me today.

Why do you want to surface the head?

My heads were in pretty crappy shape so I just wanted to get them cleaned.  I was just told to take it there and have them work it over good.  I dont know what all they are doing but he asked me if they could resurface it.  The part they are resurfacing is the part were the head gasket goes.

Surfacing is taking about .005 off. That is usually enough to get a nice flat, smooth surface.

I have a 500 that will pulled apart for a re-build.
How much do you think the head could be milled running:

-stock valves, 650 cam, ART Pistons - S12 (3mm over - total 58.4mm)

Thanks Jim

Are these the valve stem seals that fit my 78 honda cb 550?  I need to find some valve stem seals.  Or know where I can find some.  I have checked ebay and those and one other set are the only ones that I have found.

The part numbers are close but those are 12209-kl4-005 and the factory part number is 12209-333-005.  Are they the same part?  What other hondas use these same seals?

Thanks
Jay

These are advertised as actually fitting the 500, 550, and 650 - and nothing else:

I think I'd go with 'fits my 550' before 'fits most Hondas'.
