Ok, that's a LOT of work!  I don't think I will take them down that far, but I at least want to take it apart far enough to get them cleaned and painted.
Thanks for posting.
It took 10 years but she's finally done!

Thanks man.  I confess I've been seriously remiss in getting an update together; I need to get on that.

Can you blame me though; with the weather we've been having?

I would love the breakdown so I can rebuild them.  Where did you get the internals?  Do you know if they are the same for the 1100 shocks? (I'm not sure if mine are 900 or 100)

Heh; here you go: http://www.cb1100f.net/Other/shocks/fvqrebuild.pdf

I thought about tearing them all the way down for about 15 seconds and decided my efforts would be better spent elsewhere.  Even with new seals, they'll still be 30 year old shocks; I think technology has improved a bit since they were new.
Thank you for the VERY USEFUL link.

My pleasure; that's what this place is for, right?  Lemme know if you feel like rebuilding another pair.  ;)

Yeah, too bad it looks like the fun's over for a few days.  I made it home just in time yesterday to avoid the little hailstorm we had.  Got your message; that works for me.  Where ya headed?

In other breaking news, I thought this was kinda cool:

I was walkin out the door earlier this morning when I glanced at the Pipe Burn article.  I didn't realize right away it was your bike!  I just started reading the article and got it.  That's fu**in RAD!  Good for you, should be very, very proud.

Yeah, getting picked up by two of the blogs I regularly peruse was kind of a treat.  The Pipeburn feature caught me off guard Sunday morning; almost spit my Rice Krispies on the monitor when I saw it!

Would you be able to measure the width of your hub?  Mine's a little too wide haha.  And for reference, Kawasaki ZX11C (1990-1992) 310mm rotors bolt straight on to Harley hubs  ;)

Dont wanna threadjack... but I will ;D
the problem I had with the ZX11 rotors was they weren't flat, they were bowled... making the hub appear too wide

They do indeed.  I like that they're direct bolt-on as well.  What's the width of the rotors on center?

The one measurement I never took was the width of the bare hub, but I bet Mr. Cafe will have that measurement soon enough.

what year and model was your wheel from StaggerLee?
I think the 2000-2007 was a 4.5'' width but I didn't write it down ::)

Unknown; the auction only said "narrow glide wheel".

I guess it wouldn't be too hard to figure out the hub width working backwards from the overall width of the rotors.  The rotors are roughly 5mm thick each (though they're a bit thinner than that at the hub face)...

Lessee...

Overall width at rotors is 137mm
Less 1.53mm for .030" spacers
Less 9.80mm (guesstimate) for rotors

Gives us ~126mm hub thickness; roughly 5".

sounds like mine. "Chrome Laced Wheel"  I think it's the same as yours. almost 5 inch hub with a 1 inch bearing.

I'm thinking it's the 08-10 narrow glide

well Staggerlee, I can only assume that you and I have different wheels, cause mine didn't need shimming for the discs.
the hub on mine measured 4.95 inches from flange to flange.

so it looks like the 2008-Up wheel is the one to use. (for anyone trying to do this besides us)

Ehhhh, I don't remember exactly, but 14" seems to ring a bell.

I'm out of town for a few days but I can verify if you need when I get back.
