Project Just started CB400F AND MORE!
« on: September 29, 2011, 11:18:06 AM »
Hi all, Ive just started a new CB400F project. I picked the bike up for trade (about a 200.00 value), and I am building it into a C.R. for my wife. A week later I picked up 3 CB750Fs off Craig's List for 800.00, 2 runners and a parts bike. From those I'm going to build a C.R. for me. Let the adventure begin!

So in the time since I got the bike, I got it running, cleaned out the carbs, and adjusted the timing chain. I've been working to get it cleared of all the junk. I'm not stripping it down for now, just getting things mocked up.
Since it had been layed down on the right side, the headlight and front fender were a bit trashed. I had a headlight from an old dirt bike, and it makes a great fit, also flipped the bars and went with a single 750 speedo, as the 400's gages were trashed.
Man I hate that seat!

Curious looking muffler, not stock anyhow. 400f's are splendid.

I'm having a blast doing this build. Ive done a couple of different mock ups on the rear fender and seat, but it all seems to flow to a natural end.

Many people do not understand why they cannot load photos.

I will explain.

When you take a photo it is too large to send anywhere on the internet.
It is all about the file size. Not the picture size.
The computer screen that you are looking it is 72DPI (really pixels per sq inch.)
To send a photo on the internet it needs to be 20-40K
Many photos from digital cameras are 1.3-2.3 Mega bites!!!!
And the size of the actual pixels in the photo would fill a screen 3 times larger that your computer screen!!!

So the photo FILE size needs to be smaller 20-40K.
The size to fit on your photo screen should not be larger than 640x480 pixels or it will not fit on the screen.

So to get the photo ready to use on the internet the photo size and the FILE size needs to be smaller.

To do this the best program is Photoshop.
There are other programs and on line photo resizing services.
Then you can sent it on the internet.

You can also google  infranview it's free, look trough the controls find the "compress for the web" feature.
You may need to resize the image depending on the resolution you took the picture at (or you can turn the res down on the cameras most offer this feature).
If you want to try  something like photoshop but don't want to pay that much check out the gimp witch is also free.

Lucky, I thought i saw a mod post the limit was 256k file size?

You could always use a free photo hosting site (like Google's PicasaWeb) and then link the pictures in. Allows them to be much bigger and clearer.

You know, I've been trying to get Picasa to work but I cant seem to get the pics to cross over, I've tried the "insert image" and the "hyperlink". All this because I wanted to put text with the image... The 1st images I put in went in great using the "attachment". But the last time I tried it kept timing out. I just downloaded the "Gallery Remote" I'll see if that works

Ok this is a bit cumbersome, but one pic at a time is better than none! Cant do two.
I like this 2nd fender, and the Ignition is under the front of the tank.

Ok, I've been looking for info on which tanks will exchange with what.... The 400F tank is, well, huge, and there are others that have a much better shape and size, like the 350f tank.
Or, like the 750 SS tank is huge and ugly, will the 750K tank exchange?
If need be, can I move the coils back under the seat?

I havent posted for a while, as we have been extremely busy at the shop. But now that winter is here, and I finally found another good tech, I have a little more time. I found a tank I love the look of, so I got a great deal on a 500T tank, and it fits with minimal mods. Picked up some parts from Dime City, drag bars, blinks, mirrors. Seat pan from Hotwing. 750 speedo and headlight.
This weekend I intend to weld in a rear hoop, and change up the electrics a bit.

I like the way the 500T tank matches well the seat tail section. I also installed a front brake master from a 600RR. The oem masters was leaking.

the 500t tank is great for a cafe build. I am working with a forum member who is using one on his 550 four.  If you aren't going to use the original tank, I would be interested.  keep at it...Larry

Its much easier to open up a photobucket account {free}, Photobucket automatically resizes the picture when its posted, never had any trouble with large pics, they all end up the same size when posted....

Retro is right-photobucket is the easiest solution.  However, my lack of computer skills prevented me from figuring it out until I saw this thread http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=70243.msg779527#msg779527 ...Larry

@photolar, I will probably sell the 400F tank, as I'm looking for another 500T tank for my 750SS build.

I saw a member do the push button start in the triple too. How hard was it to set up? Did you use the wiring from the original starter? Build looks good. i wish I made a rear hoop on my build but still unsure of the seat to be used.
