Selling the Lesters was one of my plans for the bike but I had it for so long without working on it that I sold it to Matt when he expressed interest in getting a big boy Honda. Actually, he has a couple big boy Yammies.  I had the original motor running but the cases started to crack so I shelved the bike.  There is a 400f for sale on the forum in Austin...Larry

Why did the cases crack?  And then you changed out the motor??
Has the wrong front end on it but I have parts so no biggie. 
We just need to do the title work!

I think Matt used the cash I sent him to (partially) buy the big Yammie. 

I never took the motor apart but I think the motor had been assembled incorrectly .  I helped Matt install a motor I had.  Title was clear and signed by me but I don't think he changed it over-

Shifting has been improving on the Red Rider, it definitely requires a precise, almost double-tap shift especially from 4th to 5th.  May decide to sell it though, especially if the Price Is Right(where is Bob Barker when you need him?)  Some recent photos of Red Rider and my new PC

Well I've got a soft spot for the ST1100 Larry, I rode one back in the 1990's because the bike shop owner was trying to trade me for my BMW K1100LT and I thought it was a lovely bike. Sadly I'd bought the BMW for a bargain price from a friend of mine, and was worried that he'd be pissed off if I traded it for the Honda only a few weeks after I bought it, so I had to say no.

Over here the CX500 Shadow was known as the original "Plastic Maggot", then the first model CBR1000/600 was nicknamed "Plastic maggot" again a few years later. They were all kinda ugly, (especially the Shadow) but I didn't know the ST1100 fell into that category too? Who said I knew everything? I've just learned something!

The term Maggot was originally applied to the 80's era Honda Magna-mostly because the owners were maggots(squid was another term of endearment we used).  You know,  wannabees(pseudo macho men).  I only applied to term to the ST because of all the plastic

Plastic Maggot still applies to the CX500.  With people trying to customize the ugly out of them into cafe bikes, their price has sadly gone up.  I liked the novelty of the first Honda V-twin, but they are pigs.  Heavy and not fast.  A good courier bike.  Let the hipsters have them.

 I was looking at an ST1100 once, it was a nice looking example of the bike but it had a gazillion miles on it and was priced like a new one. I just couldn't pull the trigger.

Most of the ones I've seen seem to have 60 to 70K on the odo-basically the same as my Golf Cart.  I won't buy one unless mileage is lower and I get a great price-there are two copsickle St1100 versions on Ebay right now

I think "Pig" is a little harsh mate, true, they are a little heavy and a little gutless, but they are still a nice little bike. Cheers, Terry.

Just being real,  Terry.  I love the CX/GL line, especially the 650 Turbo .  Got to ride one back in the day, think our shop only sold two

My friend John has the full suite of Jap turbo bikes from the 80's Larry, including a minty CX500 Turbo. I haven't had a ride on it yet, but one day I might feel the mighty power for myself............

Just a nickname but I get your sentiment.  They are supposed to be very reliable.

The Turbo had some guts.

Back in the day there were several turbo bikes and the cx650 turbo was one of the nicer ones. The turbo bikes were known to be high maintenance.  They ate a few cookies.

The cx500 made 50 bhp before shaft drive losses and the like. So, it was a bit top heavy but the design was innovative and pretty good for a motor like it out of the factory.
It is great around town and responsive and once moving the top heavy feeling is gone.
I like mine.  They sold better overseas.

I initially wanted to buy one a couple of years ago since they were ultra cheap, a Guzzi like twin and different from my other bikes. I decided against due to project load and the bike's weight and lack of go fast parts. There are some good looking customs but after all that work I want it to scoot.
