Is this a stock Brown?
« on: January 10, 2012, 12:42:46 PM »
Howdy all, been thinking about paint scheme for my 71 K1 and like the garnett brown, but saw this on yamiya's site. From the sidecovers it looks like a 69 or a 70, but that color is not on spookytom's sight for those years. First, is this briar brown? Also where there another list of colors that were not available in the US for certain years? ...or is this just a custom paint job non-OEM? Thanks in advance!

Not quite sure if this is stock, or not but it looks great!  With the finned sidecovers I am pretty sure it is a very nice repaint which looks close to the original Brier Brown.  Kinda hard to tell from pictures though.  The paint looks different depend on the type of light real sunlight vs artificial light and how much there is in the way of shadows.  Very nice bike though!

I know I really love the color of that 750 as well! Want to keep it to stock colors for the year, but love this color and might veer from that. Does look better with the older finned side covers in my opinion too.

That color was never used on the 70 USA model. It looks kinda like more of a root beer shade. The 71 Brown is kind of a funny color as it has a green base coat with the brown candy over the top. I have one that has sun faded and lightened  quite bad to where the headlight shell top is more green (1st pic). The other one I have, pic 2, has held up better, was stored indoors for years and is still a darker richer brown. These candy colors really change over the years if exposed to a lot of sun. Anybody ever seen the 'silver' Orange Flake  ??

Your brown looks great! Most that I see the side covers have a serious green hew to it. That was the color I was originally looking at, until this one caught my eye. Anyone know if there were other colors that we don't have in the states for 69-71?

That’s what is sometimes known as a “Fantasy” paint job which is cool, but not quite OEM correct. I can’t say which brown color was used in the KO photo. The 750 K1 was produced (world-wide) in six different colors. This can be seen below in this fuel tank parts list published by Honda dated 12/71. These same six colors were also used on the K1 Japanese home market bikes. Here’s an unofficial list of all 1969-76 CB750K colors from my notes:

CB750 to K5:

AZ Candy blue green

CM Candy ruby red

CQ Candy gold

DM Sunny gold metallic

EE Candy garnet brown

EF Valley green metallic

EG Polynesian blue metallic

LU Brier brown metallic

LV Flake sunrise orange

LX Candy gold custom

LY Candy Bacchus olive custom

MV Planet blue metallic

NQ Silver metallic custom

PC Astro purple metallic

QQ Maxim brown metallic

TC Freedom green metallic

TD Boss maroon metallic

UE Flake apricot red

UF Armor silver metallic

CB750 K6:

ZA Flake sapphire blue

ZB Candy Antares red

ZC Flake sunrise orange

ZD Candy sapphire blue

The candy blue green K1’s sure do look nice:

Thank you Hinomaru, that is perfect and exactly what I was wondering. So fantansy paint job, I like it and think it does look good but rather go with a stock color I think. That blue is great looking K1. Thanks again!
