That's corrrect, you can't put them in backwards because the slides have a goove in them and a small tab which have to line up. Those slides are real high though.

They are not bight, they are installed backwards. They can not be turned around, they belong to different cylinders. Ill have to disassemble and move them around.
I hope that will fix my three week battle.

Hopefully that will do the trick.  Switching them out is a little laborious, but it will be worth it!

Maybe I don't understand the picture, is that the top of the cut out?  The edge looks pretty flat so I thought the slides were just way high in the carb.  I never considered the parts could have been swapped between carbs 1-2 and 3-4.

What would be the best bowl gasket to buy? The one that doesn't swell?
Ill have to return floats to 22mm and this gaskets will trash once I open it again

These ones are nice cause they are pre shaped unlike the generic round ones that you have to shape and always fall out of place and get pinched, then leak. They can work and there are tricks to getting them to stay in place but if you are always tinkering like me its not worth the time or effort.

+1  ;),they last a very long time indeed...and with the crummy ethanol type fuel available that seems to break down carb rubber parts quickly..I'd go for a few sets of factory Honda carb rubber kits;they have all the rubber parts for each complete carb in one kit.

A little vaseline holds the round ones in place while you install the bowl, then it just dissolves in the gas, but the shaped ones are really nice.

Mine swell too but if i let them sit and dry out they shrink back to where they will fit again.
I thought the book says 21mm on the float, I could be wrong.

Just an update. Switched those slides and bike runs great so far. No smog, no issues. I didn't even synch them yet. Thanks for everyone's help and involvement
I was about to buy another set of carbs. I can continue with.my project now knowing bike runs well.  I have three motorcycles ducati sports classic Bonneville and now cb400f and I always had best of luck on forums. Thanks again for taking your time to respond and and help fellow rider in need.
Bike runs well without airbox and synch I can only imagine how it will run once I throw those on
I have noticed gaskets returning to shape after a few days. I guess I should keep couple sets at home. And for those who rejuvinate rubber boots using xylene and wintergreen oil: I tried same thing with olive oil and a week later they are still h
Good. Wintergreen hard to find in Los Angeles county and so is xylene, its not allowed to sell any longer here.
