Hey Hey how about the Monkees
« on: January 28, 2012, 10:41:20 AM »
Im sure Im not the only old dude here  that watched them on TV in the mid 60's. My sister and I loved that show and I still have there old albums box up somewhere. Most of there songs were actually good. IMO a lot better than most the junk that you here today. This will take you back about 45 years or so. Im getting old.

One of the coolest songs they never did put on 45 back then was the song "Girl" that Davy sings on The Brady Bunch. When Davy was in the Valley last year he did that song and talked about being on the Brady Bunch and how much fun he had. If you get a chance to see his show it is very good and high energy. And he still sounds very good.

Their hits were written by people like Neil Diamond and other writers at the Brill Building in NYC. Hendrix actually opened for them just before he went to the UK to be discovered.

I believe in the beginning the music was by Boyce and Hart.  They did well, considering they were intended to be a fake band.

They were all quite talented and when they were finally permitted to play there on instruments and start writting some of there own songs it showed. In 1967 they sold more records than the Beatles and Rolling Stones combined. They started touring and had sold out shows everywhere. To date I think they have over 65 million records sold. Not to bad for a make believe band for a TV show. I sill like there songs all these years later. Three of them Dolenze, Jones, and Tork still tour some.

Seriously...I thought you were being funny. ;) I figured everybody that's been around for awhile knew about, or remembered the revival of the Monkees due to MTV replaying the original show in the 80's. I grew up watching them on Saturday mornings in the late 60's - early 70's. Ah, the good old days of Saturday morning cartoons...gave you something to look forward to, nowadays these whippersnappers with their 24 hour cartoon channel's!... >:( >:( ;D

An owner of a local lumberyard owns the #2 car (2 originals were built).  He paid $360,000 for it.  I've seen it in the local Downriver Cruise.

I never saw him or the Monkees live, but grew up watching them every week on there tv show in the mid 60's. My older sister had a big crush on Davy she thought he was the cutest thing. I enjoyed all there songs and still do to this day. Hearing of his passing saddens me and also makes me feel a bit older myself. Davy and the Monkees thanks for all the great memories.
