Well with the points fixed i hooked up my hondaman ignition and it works this time. The bike still has that hesitation just off idle so i rode the last quarter mile home in that throttle position and then pulled a few plugs when i got home. They were black and sooty. So the lower end is running rich. Which explains why it starts easy without choke. SO, with stock jetting why am i running rich? Ill back the idle screws out a few turns tomorrow. Also as of today Im getting 25mpg. Pretty sad.

Possible your ignition timing is off?  Made a big difference in my bike's starting behavior.

I used the timing gun on it and it was pretty good. Maybe ill double check it. Im not sure its off far enough to cause it to run so rich. Unless my harbor freight timing gun is not working right.  ???

Havent messed with the timing yet but i went for a short ride around town with my buddy kevin and his 74 550. We had a lot of fun drag racing all over but when i got back to the house and parked the bike it was noisy so I got off the bike to listen to it. Noisy but not any worse then usual. I tried to start the bike back up and it would not turn over. The start button has decide to quit. I swear it is always something with this bike.

Well i  went out and messed with it. Button still was not working. Flicked the blinkers on and off bumped the horn. Those all worked fine. Hit the start button again and it fired right up. I wish it was just broken that would make it much easier to figure out what is wrong. Oh well.

I had something similar to your start button with my horn last weekend. Most of the time I would hit the horn and nothing. Then once in a while it worked. I opened up the control and notice corrosion and some the wires were seperating from the soder.  I cleaned up the corrosion and had a buddy resoder the wire. Thing works better then ever.

Ill keep an eye on it. If it gets worse ill open it up and see. Front break was squealing a little. I tried to adjust it but i hate that adjuster spring so i took the whole screw out. It still squealed. Im pretty sure the pad is contaminated from when the whole thing leaked so i ordered some new pads on ebay.

How smooth are he pads? If like a plate you may want to take them off and scuff them up. May help with the squeeling

Still looking for blinkers?  I think I've got some I'd let go for cheap.

The pads were pretty oily from the leaky caliper. Im surprised they have worked as well as they have. I have a new set in the mail.

Thanks greggo, I found a cheap set from another member. Did you ever hear back about that KO?

This bike keeps getting better and better but I think its going to need a new motor to make it as reliable as i would like it to be.

Glad you found some.  Never heard back about the K0.  I'm going to stop by after work next week to see if the note's still on it.  If it's gone, at least I'll have a good idea that they're not looking to sell.

Yeah, for a ridiculous price. I want a xr600 pretty bad. But I'm not going to let this one go for cheap.

Well, I don't think it's a bad asking price, and I sincerely hope you get close to it!  I think green 550's are almost as easy to sell as the orange ones.  Good Luck with the sale.

Taking the old hag to the coast for a week. I listed it over there on CL and have had a little interest. So I thought I would fix the oil leak from the kicker shaft. Couldnt get the seal out and since i was pretty sure the shaft was scratched i pulled the clutch cover and removed the shift shaft. It was scratched so a little jb weld and emery cloth and it should be good to go. Im not going to change the clutch cover gasket. It is still in tact and looks fine. Anybody disagree with this plan?  I also dropped the oil pan. This all actually started as an oil change. I fingered the old primary chain and its a little loose but all i have to compare it to is a brand new chain on my big bore. I felt the oil galleys and there is no sign of rubbing so Im going to call it good. So Now Im waiting for the JB weld to cure and then I can put it all back together. When Im done it will have a new kicker and shifter seal, fresh oil and piece of mind that any noise is not the primary grinding away at the case. There was also no metal in the oil pan.

Im not sure I really want to sell this bike. I am sure that i will regret it but i can always find another one i guess.

Well I got the old bag put back together last night at Midnight. The clutch basket was pretty gunky so i wiped it down and so far it seems to shift into neutral much easier. Ill see how long that last. Fingers crossed that i have no leaks. Going to ride on the coast so i brought tools just incase. Next is to work on the carbs and I will also pull the valve cover to see what it looks like and re torque the head. I hope that will get rid of some of the top end leaks.

Classic Pauline. Stupid bike. I get it over to the coast on a trailer, take it for one ride and on the way back it starts to surge and lose power on the freeway. Next time i take it out it just gets worse and worse. I hate this bike. Lucky for me i also brought old reliable little frank.

Well Havent messed with the ignition on the bike yet so Im not sure why its not getting enough juice on 1-4 to fir the hondaman Ign. The front brake is making this weird vibrating noise when i brake. Its like the pad is vibrating. I didnt put the brake grease on the back of the pad so that could be that problem. Also after I changed the seals and the oil and then put it all back together, when i dumped the oil out of the catch pan I found a washer. I look at parts fiche and looked on my big bore motor to see if it fit anywhere on the clutch side but it did not fit anywhere so Im at a loss as to weather it came off my bike or just fell in the pan some how.  ::) Anyway the coast was fun Im back now and I have a Buyer for the reliable little frank. Ill be sad to see him go but is time to build more bikes.

I hope frank finds a good home. Did you ever find out what the clunking in your forks was? Mines doing it too and I am about to disassemble them but I have no clue what it is.

No, never figured it out and it has never gotten any worse so I gave up. Maybe when the forks seals need to be replace ill do some trouble shooting.
Sounds like the guy buying the bike lives in San Francisco. Perfect place for a bike like that.
