Bluetooth helmets... Or whatever your using for music
« on: March 08, 2012, 07:07:40 PM »
I'm looking at some bluetooth set ups for my helmet... I found a cheap bluetooth helmet that has bad reviews for sound quality... http://www.cyclegear.com/eng/product/v600z_bluetooth_full_face_motorcycle_helmet/web1009632
so it got me thinking  what options are out there for a bluetooth set up   I found a hookup that goes from 55 to 199...rediculous.... Same product..

What do I think?

For music, put in your earbuds and plug them into the iPod.  For phone calls, pull off the road and make/take them.

I wanna hear the car/truck/bus that's gonna hit me.... ::)

Also, in many states it's illegal to wear headphones/earbuds while driving/riding.

I couldn't agree more, having music in your ears while riding might sound great but i think it would improve your chances of becoming  a statistic considerably....

I don't ride with music. I even like to keep the full face up in traffic. you can usually hear the motor before the car jumps out in front of you.

Between my loud exhaust and wind noise I don't think I could hear anything worthwhile with bad ears! Does that really work in less hostile environments? Is there one preferrable brand of helmet over another to start with?

i use cotton wool to take the edge of wind noise, proper ear plugs are too good and i lose my feel, music would be too distracting for me i think,i like the sound of the motor and any other noises the bike is making, aswell as the sound of stones occasionly striking underneath or getting wizzed up through the front mudguard and all the other real life stuff that makes me aware of my surroundings.

I done it with a walkman long time ago. Velcroed phones in the helmet, it worked fine on long hauls, not for the city - too distracting.

I used to do the walkman thing as a teen.  I would break the headband off and stuff the speakers in the helmet.

Depending on what bike I ride now, depends on what setup I use.  If I am on the 750, I use just regular $10 earbuds from walmart.  When I am on my Venture, I plug in my helmet to the bike.  I have a headset and mic setup in my helmet as well.  I have not justified the little $45 connector from a MP# type plug in to a 5-pin DIN.

Sound quality, I read people complain all the time about quality.  Guess what, your not going to get it unless you pay hundreds for a speaker setup and people still complain.  In short, accept the fact that they are not nice three-way bass thumping speakers and enjoy it or don't do it at all.  :)

The best sounding setup I have used since a teen was actually the old Walkman with the band broken off.  Those speakers had some size to them.  My $80 speaker/mic setup is ok but not worth the $80 I spent on them.  Just go with a $10 noise cancelling earbud setup for bang for the buck!
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.
