Cigarette butts out the window should be grounds for:

Attempted arson (especially out west here where it is so dry)
Attempted murder (if a biker is in close proximity)
Littering (AT THE LEAST!)

I always though of throwing cigarettes out as littering too. The reason it isn't is because they are "biodegradable"  but in the long run what the hell isn't??? Doesn't make much sense to me, but what do I know?

Over here in Oz it's as illegal as hell, but once again, nobody gives a crap, but you can call a number with the drivers license plate number and he'll/she'll be fined.

Personally, if someone does that to me, I ride back, pick the burning butt up, ride back to the car and throw it back in the drivers window, I'll guarantee they won't do it again! Cheers, Terry.

I once had a butt land in my crotch!! That got my attention pretty quick, but I managed to grab it with my gloved hand, knock it down a gear or two and pull up along side the still open window of the moron who flicked it. Guess where the butt went next!!

I don't think he meant he was smoking it mate, but I have a friend with a Harley Electra Glide who would often smoke while riding, he is quite small and there is plenty of "still air" behind that big fairing, but I'm not sure what he does for an ash tray, ha ha!

I have fortunately never been nailed by a stray cig but. However when they whip thier trash out the window I stop and pick it up, race up to them at the light, "You dropped something" and toss it back in through the window it came out of.

Anyone who throws butts out the window is a bleeping litterbug.  Period.  $1000 fines is NOT enough.  I think that $10K might be about right.

First the butts, next the whole ashtray.  Then the coffee cup.  After all, it's more important to clean my car while driving than when I stop to fuel up.     Next, the McDonald's bag.  Oh, that was easy, so let's just dump our motor oil down the storm drain because it's easier than recycling it.  Never mind that it flows to the Ocean -- at least I don't have to look at it.  #$%* paying 40 bucks to dispose of my old refrigerator with R13 CFCs in it -- I'll just dump it over some roadside cliff where it'll eventually leak into the atmosphere.

I'm sure that our engines are more polluting to our atmosphere than the second-hand smoke of the average smoker.  But I'm not sure how that makes it OK to toss a butt out the window.

A friend once told me "I toss my butts because they make the car stink".  So I gave him a half-full water bottle and said "take off the cap, drop in the butt.  repeat until full, then throw away.  repeat again."  He says "oh, I never thought of that".  And now there's one less f'ing litterbug in this world.

Littering really pisses me off, to the point where I can't really joke about it.  There's too many bleeping morons that just don't care and think nothing about taking the easy way out and polluting everything in sight.  Pollution from engines?  True, but unfortunately, very difficult for the average Joe to control, outside of driving more economical vehicles (motorcycles) and cutting back the miles on the family truck.

I go out of my way to pick up trash that other people throw on beaches, sidewalks, mountains, roadways.

So, if you had delivered your message while we were all drinking beers around a bonfire, I'm sure we'd have received the hidden message.  But here, on a NG regarding motorcycles, it was just a troll to incite a semi-treehugging motorhead like me into a verbal riot.

BTW, I'm balling a beautiful girl who sounds an a lot like your sister.     She is very impressed that I rode over 6000 miles on my bike last year to get to work and back, even though it wasn't convenient or safe in pea-soup fog and wasn't easy to grocery shop with little cargo space.  But, I saved a #$%*load of money on my reliable SOHC over a new Prius Hybrid, so that maybe me and your sister can afford to buy a nice house someday.  And I got about the same fuel economy as the Hybrid.

Since you've decided to turn this thread into a "cockoff", what have you done that's so great for the environment while claiming that tossing butts and other stuff is OK?

Alright...I gotta weigh in on this one...normally I ignore the BS posts and the infighting that has become all too familiar lately!

Note to the Mods of this board...you will start losing valuable members of this board if it continues to degrade as it has been. I am not claiming to be the smartest guy out there or anything but I can only guess that others (the smart ones I have been learning from) are getting as bored by this as I am.

It's getting to the point where I see this stuff going on and log right out of the site for a bit and hope that it clears before returning. Unfortunately some people like the anonymity factor of the net and use it for all the wrong reasons i.e. picking fights they would never do in person.

I would like to think that we can get this "back on board" in the near future.

Tacoma Highway near NYC, 
Luckily I slowed down  out of their range enough so their aim was way off and

YEah, I'm going to miss SiliconDoc too.  I typically try to ignore trolls but I can't stand littering and cig butts.

And speaking of trolls, this guy SiliconDoc is a serial troll.  A quick google search for his handle brought up over 1000 hits.  He's been banned from more forums than Gary Busey's been kicked out of bars.

Anyway, lest any of SD's verbal farting actually convinced any of you, I am not an enviro-weenie.  I'm an outdoorsman, a patriot, and a motorhead.  I love motorcycles!!  And, out of any powersport there is, it is the most economical both with regard to maintaining your bike and especially concerning fuel.

Granted, I called myself a "semi-treehugger" which was a poor choice of words (really pissed off ultraconservative SiliconDoc though  ) as I realize that has ultra-left wing ties -- I can assure you that while I might be left of center I am surely NOT that.  I am very concerned about the environment of our mother earth, as we all should be.  Which again is why I commute via motorcycle 8 months of the year instead of driving my truck, and why I don't litter, which is why when I see trash in pristine wilderness I pick it up.  Big Deal, I'm not bragging about it.  Whatever, just don't throw your butts out the window, OK?
