What exactly do I need to install on my frame to check the fitment of mine? I can now find "some" time to play but no where near enough to build my bike back yet.
Seeing what you guys have posted it's looking like the seat and grab rail/tail light assembly. What else? I need your help to make this as quick as possible. I can be the third trial and error guy. Sorry I haven't had the time to participate yet.

Frame, tank in its mounts, seat latch, rear fender (maybe), tail light, rear shocks, Cowl, and grab bar/rail.

I think that's enough....

TT/Matt,

I'm on the road working until Sunday. My swingarm is NOT installed. How will that affect the top install of the shocks?

The top of the stock shocks are round/spherical (kinda) in shape.  "Angle of the dangle" probably isn't too important there.  Just that they are in place near the pivot of the seat bottom when raised.

You have the stock shocks?

Originals LOOONG gone. They were pretty pathetic. I've been running Konis with the spring shroud considering they actually dampen  ;) I believe I also have a pair of stock type shocks and a pair of Redwings (?) I could try. I'll have to compare the top mounts when I get home.

Well, I've got about 400 miles of peg scraping on it now and the comfort and handling is fantastic! I'm leaving for a cross country roadtrip in a few weeks so I'll let y'all know how long distance comfort works out. I've bought a few different seats over the years (old school Corbin-Gentry, E-bay cafe seat that used stock mounting hardware and Carpy universal cafe seat) and this is the best fitting, most comfortable one yet one yet. Compared to what you pay for a fiberglass, unupholstered "cafe" seat the Corbin is an excellent deal. Sorry if I sound like a Corbin sales rep here but I've been searching for a bolt-on solution for all day comfort w/o making it look like a Goldwing for a while now and this is finally it. They are even sending my old seat back to me so I can recover it and use it to "return it to stock" if I wish. Also, not sure if this was an issue but I used the helmet holder the other day and it worked fine.

Lloyd, I'll take a closer look today at these alignment issues. Do you have a production model or is yours the handmade one? I feel that my minor issue may be simply for lack of some washers and a bolt as I have done some seat mixing and matching in the past.
So much to do, so little time.

I had a gunfighter and lady on my FJ and really liked it. I would love a similar option for my 550. The seat is the only thing I am not looking forward to about the Michigan stage of the rally next week.

It was my understanding that the one I have came off their production molds.  It certainly looks it.

I feel that my minor issue may be simply for lack of some washers and a bolt as I have done some seat mixing and matching in the past.
No offense, buy will you still say that >after< you "fix" it?

It's NOT just washers.  It's the design selection of contact points Corbin uses against the frame.  The "bumpers" are in the wrong place, and are the wrong height.  After you fix those, then the helmet holder hits the seat pan.  When you fix the right shift alignment, then the seat hits (and scuffs) against the shock mount when the seat is opened.

It will be interesting to see if Jerry's seat pan has curled upward in the front, and if yours does also after it been there for a while.

You're absolutely correct, Lloyd. You can obviously see that those bumpers are not evenly aligned.

After installation of a washer under each of the two hinge bolts and putting a bolt back in the grab rail -

Although it is obviously not PERFECT, the only issue I can see is the slight rise on the right side. I can't feel it when I ride and the seat fits solidly with no wiggle at all. I'll let Corbin know what I've observed and volunteer to drop the bike off after I return from my trip for further development if they are interested. I still wholeheartedly recommend this seat as it is the best option I've found on the market and were it not for Lloyds careful inspection I would've remained blissfully unaware of any issue whatsoever.

Be aware that putting washers under the seat hinge mounts transfers downward pressure loads from the bumper contact with the frame to the seat hinge itself.  (lifts the load bearing bumpers off the frame)  Over time, and pressure cycles, the hinge will bend.

This does not happen with the stock seat pan.

Well a few months later, and the fit is still tight! Going back to have another one done. Quality it top notch in my book.

Almost 10,000 miles on mine now and I couldn't be happier! Long distance comfort is amazing! I did 9,000 miles in twenty days and stayed comfy the whole way. I highly recommend getting one.

sorry to bump an old thread... but has anybody else bought one of these?  I would like to see some photos of it on some other bikes. I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger on this, im feeling hesitant because I think it might be to modern a look for a mostly stock '78?  anyway, any other opinions?

Here are more pictures of it on the bike it was fitted to by Corbin.  The mis-alignment issue were worse and more noticeable on the my other two CB750Fs (Pics on request. I played musical seats on all my 750s one day, and about two weeks to a month to both solve and try to get Corbin to address the obvious issues.)
1st pic. -  Note the misalignment of the cowl to the tail light, and the right side of the seat higher than the left.
Three items of interest on the second pic:
Note the scuffing of the seat right above the shock mount.  Because of seat pan ill design, the material rubs on the shock when the seat is opened on its hinge.
Also, note the rear cowl bumper not resting on the grab bar.  This is also due to the misshapen seat pan.
Note also that the front of the seat rests nicely on the tank.  This pic was taken on reciept from Corbin.
The third pic shows how the front of the seat has curled upward and away from the tank.  This took about six months just sitting out in the garage.
Forth and fifth pics show how the seat pan was shifted sideways to the right, to band aid "fix" some of the hinging issues with the seat pan.

All these pics and many more were sent to Corbin along with detailed notes, in an effort to help them make a superior seat.  As far as I know, they are still offering the prototype mold seat pans with no corrective measures taken.
They alternately claim my bike is bent (the one they used for the mold-making).  Or, that there are no problems on any bike is it sold to fit.

The last pics are of the stock seat fitted to the same bike Corbin used to make the seat mold.  The stock seat fits all three of my CB750F examples perfectly, not that that is much surprise.  However, if my bike is assumed bent, it is quite amazing that the stock seat has no fitment or operation issues on any of them.

The seat is firm but feels quite nice.  All the upper materials and workmanship are top notch in my estimation.  But, I strongly object to the seat pan fit function.  If I had paid for the seat, I would have returned it for refund or correction.

Does anyone know if they have or are planning on making one of these seats for a 1978 750 (K) model?

I just bought on of these seats and have run into one small problem.  I sold my original seat and I think I left some hardware on it that I now need.  I am missing the hinge that attaches to the underside of the seat.  I have the part that goes to the frame and the pin but the other half I no got.  Any ideas where I could track one down?  I looked it the usual places eBay, parts fiches say its unavailable.  Anybody got one licking around or do I need to just manufacture something?  On the good front the seat looks sweet stole a page from Matt and went with some Carbon fiber and asphalt on the tail.  Also fits well so far but obviously haven't gotten it fully mounted.   Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
