Topic: Well it's a start. '78CB750F updated 5/18/12

Well I finally got to a bike after several tries.  This one found me .  Modified a little, lowered with shorties in the back and 15mm off the front,4 into 1,new grips, steering bearings and a few other things.  Today I put the clubman bars that came with the bike on, I think there called the Z style.  They totally change the riding experience and I'm pumped.  It is the first step in making my CB into something of a stock/cafe'.  I'm planning on a gunfighter seat like if not the actual Corbin Gunfighter seat.  I like the stock cowl so the one up seat seems the way to go.  I had plans of a Carpy seat/cowl or maybe an Airtech but funds are an issue and like I said the stock cowl grew on me....also I can keep the seat stock have it open on the hinges and not loose the compartment where I keep the reg etc..  After the seat rearsets, then paint over the winter.   Going with Black, Tan, and white with the paint; Black over all, Tan ovals on the tank and the tail and white on the gas cover and white emblems on the side covers.  These are the color of my dog Otis and I think it'll look good on the bike (it does on him)and be unique.  So that's where the Dawg them comes in to CafeDawg.  I started a blog as build thread since I couldn't get pics to load on the forum.  It's cafedawg.blogspot.com if anyone wants to take a look.  Not much to see yet except a survivor like all the bikes on sohc.  thanks for lookin if ya do glad to be somewhere where people understand the obsession.

Welcome to the forum.  I am glad someone else has a F3 that is getting back on the road.  Good luck with your project.  Attach any photos when you get a chance.

Well I've sold some parts off and put some new to me parts on.  Have Norton look-a-like Honda Decals coming for the tank.  Sold the SuperSport badges and the stock seat.  Put a one-up/solo seat on and like the new feel of the bike, the bump keeps me in place.  The seat is on a stock K pan, that was a King/Queen seat trimmed down, with a new seat cover I riveted to the pan.  Modified the cowl a little to fit the new seat/pan.  It's a little chunky but overall I like it with the stock cowl

Haven't posted here in forever but have done some cosmetic work, new Corbin seat, bikini fairing, rear directionals still need to do paint to finish up the cosmetics.  The seat is a sweet bit of kit, comfy, looks great IMO and I kept stock hinge, compartment and tail/cowl very happy with it overall.  The fairing gives me something to hide behind on the daily commute, needs paint. Signals work good, like them better than the giant stock one will do the fronts soon I think.  Other than that just basic maintenance, oil change, fixed the exhaust while pipes were off, replaced spark plug cap that was arcing to the case.  FYI do not reach down while riding in the  dark and attempt to move cap away from engine it's a shocking experience [facepalm].  Bikes running real well as result of the repairs hope to put another 4K on it this summer.  Now if I could just get somewhere on the 550 we'd have somethin.

   I see that the jugs are up off the case, so it won't be long now and you'll be into that 550. May only need a couple taps with a block 1 1/2x1 1/2 x12" of wood while it's still on the rafters and you may be in business.
   The 750 is lookin good , I   like the bikini and the seat. What is the paint plan?

Hey CD, that 750 is looking great.  I hope things will start going better on the 550 for you. As for mine, I got it running but I dont know if I will be able to afford to do much for building this year.  I'll just keep it dry and safe til things look better. Keep up the great work and I'll be looking for more posts on the 550.

rb  good eye ya the jugs are up to the top of the head studs haven't really checked on it in a bit.  I'm going with the idea that if I take it easy and have patience rather than beating the snot out of it I'll have a better result, thought I would try it as a change of pace to normal modus operendi.  I've been waiting on some blasting media which was on the porch tonight when I got home  so going to go and try that stuff on the frame and bits I want to paint.  As for the paint on the 750 I need to get some filler and fill in where the tank badges used to go.  I have some custom made Norton look alike script Honda decals to go on the tank and decals of my avatar (the yin/yang) to go on either the fairing or the side covers not sure yet on the color for these.  As for the rest I was thinking Black tank and tail with a tan stripe down them and the decals are white so they would be the colors of Otis my dog who was killed last year.  Now I'm not sure, he was killed by a motorcycle so it seems and odd choice.  I was thinking of doing the 550 black frame, black rims and a Sterling gray on  the tank and fender kinda like you did with the green bike.  I liked the Sterling gray black scheme so much I thought I'd do it on the 750.  Or maybe do both of them gray and black.  I do know I'm using Spay Max 2K base and clear to do the job what ever the color.  It's the best rattle can paint I've ever seen.  We'll see how it goes I'm trying to triage the money I have for the two bikes IE what do I need now and what can I do later.   Speaking of the green bike did you chop the rear fender and if yes how?  I like the look.

srbakker:  Thanks I think it will look better when it's integrated into the bike with the proper paint.  The fairing came from Carpy, I got it about a year ago and since his new website went up his prices have been up to.  I've seen 'em on eBay too don't know if their nock offs or not looked very similar.

  I found that masking taping the area to be cut is a good start because you can change the cut before you cut it ,then when you are happy with the new fenderline, either a grinder or an air tool with a metal cutting wheel: the kind that a car mechanic would use to cut off an exhaust system.     Flat file the burr afterwards so you don't get cut.
