Marine gas. Ethanol free. Anyone tried it?
« on: April 11, 2012, 04:58:45 AM »
We just had a gas station on my commute start selling 89 ethanol free gas. My 750 k-4 absolutley loves it. Anyone else tried it and noticed a difference? The bike is better from a standing start right up through the gears . I noticed the difference especially after a tank of 87 and back to the ethanol free. Try it. Its 4.18 a gallon though. Im going to test the mileage long distance this weekend on a trip. Both 87 and 89 E free.

You should get better performance. Ethanol just waters down the gas and is also corrosive. I'm jealous you can get the good stuff. The enviro-nazi idiots have it outlawed in my neck of the woods. Use it in all small engines, by the way.

Check out Startron's fuel enzyme treatment.  Not the easiest stuff to find, but works great in my truck and car..  Will be using it in my bike as well, when I get it fired up in a few weeks.  Makes my vehicles run like they are ethanol free.

last summer, I brought back 94 octane 'real gas' from mid ohio. Put it in the 750k1... the difference was instantly noticeable.
Ethanol benefits farmers, but I'm dubious about what it does for the environment. Even if there is a slight reduction in emissions,  each charge has fewer btus, and therefore less power, so you're going to use more of it to go the same distance, and thus, be belching the more crap into the air.

Mark that benifits corn farmers.  Actually Ethanol's growth has more to do with fuel stability and the banning of MTBE, which has been leaking from Fuel tanks into water supplies.

Ethanol can be a fine fuel, but engines must be tuned specifically for it in order not to feel a loss of power and the miliage is a bit lower I believe.  A 40 year bike is most likely going to run on the Fuel it was designed for.

Oddly enough, if the country were serious about using Ethenol as a fuel instead of a farm subside, they would be promoting forms of ethenol production that yelds much higher amounts, things such as sugar beats, switch grass, and Sorigum Caine.

There's two stations where I live that have no ethanol fuels.  One has 86, 87, & 91 octanes, the other has 87, 89, & 91.  The only two places I go to fill up my motorcycles.

I don't know where I could get Marine gas in my area, if anywhere. I add Startron fuel stabilizer to my fuel to counter the harmful effects of ethanol.

Yep, I use it.  Couple stations around here carry it.  I honestly didn't see that dramatic of a difference in my bikes or my truck though.  The rubber parts in my carbs probably knew the difference though.  I made it a point to stop in the last station I was at and thank them for having it.  I told them, "Don't let this stuff go anywhere."

To the guy in Atlanta.

There are some stations selling no ethanol gas.  There is one definitely in Whitesburg, GA not far from Carrollton.  Last check was 89 octane for $3.95 gallon.  It runs better and I get better mpg.

Thanks for the link. I bookmarked it. Unfortunately, the closest ethanol-free gas station to me is nearly 30 miles away.

I am fairly certain it is outlawed in the metro-Atlanta counties. I did some research on it a while back. They should make an app for those gas stations.

Not even Al Gore thinks it's good for the environment anymore. On the other hand, when I find myself agreeing with Al Gore, I take some time to sit down and re-evaluate my life...

I am in the same boat. The closest is 20 miles and off my typical riding patterns. Seems like it is mostly Mo and Pa shops, but Liberty sells it in rural areas but not near DC metro.

Some of the gas stations here sell fuel with Ethanol in it, mostly it's 95 RON and a little cheaper than our standard 91 RON unleaded, but mostly I use 98 RON Shell or BP fuel, or occasionally 100 RON when I can get it. Two of my bikes are running relatively high compression pistons, and the 98 RON fuel works very well with them. (as does a cup full of Acetone in each tankfull) Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Ethanol is a better fuel. You do need more of it though compared to gas. Google it. Higher octane, higher latent heat of evap. Many people run water/alc inj to make big power with boost.  You can run more timing, compression or boost. I ran 26- 28 psi with alc inj and 91 octane, 18-20 psi on just 91 octane. True it is less friendly as far as corrosion though.

Check the web page, there should be plenty around 81. In winchester there are two Liberties but Harrisonburg lists 6 stations.  You should be able to fill eth free most of the ride on 81 from what I see here.
