Turn signals do not blink
« on: April 25, 2012, 06:50:32 PM »
We put on mini blinkers on a 72 CB 350F. They light up bright but will not blink or blink really slow if they do. I was thinking there was not enough resistance to make the flasher work.
Tonight I bought a electronic flasher and put it in. I was not sure if it mattered what wire to put on the new flasher. I gave it a try, the left side came on bright  and did not blink. Then I tried the right side. They did not light up at all and then the bike quit. No lights on in the dash. I ck the fuse in the fuse holder above the regulator and it had blown. I replace the fuse. I changed the wires on the flasher and tried it again. Same thing and blew the fuse. I replaced the fuse and put in the old flasher. The left side lights come on bright but do not flash. You can hear the flasher make a click one time. The right side no lights but you can hear the flasher going on and off. No lights on or blinking at this time. I am not sure why my right side lights don't come on any more, and not sure why it blows the fuse with the electronic flasher on right turns. I have not spent any time trying to diag yet. Maybe it blew the bulbs in the right side also.

Thanks Bruce

Not sure what bike you have, but I had the same happen to my 71, just bought a replace blinker relay from honda and it started working again...the relay on mine was bad. I would replace the bulb and try, it, if that doesn't work then look at the voltage you're getting at the bulb and backtrack the wires if you have issue there. When my relay was going...it would click and flash sometimes, then just once then not flash at all. Wiring diagrams are on this site...if you haven't foudn them already. Good luck!

I just put new signals on my 350F and had the same problem.
I fixed mine by putting in a Tridon EP35 electronic flasher with
three prongs. Wired it up: green to negative, black to positive,
and grey to lamp.

Hope that helps.

According to the manual for a 750, not sure if its the same for your 350, it suggests running a test wire into the two female ends where the flasher relay plugs in.  If the light all light then its a flasher relay if they don't then you have a bulb out or connectivity problem.  The fuses blowing makes me think wires are crossed somewhere or touching frame.
Good Luck

Hey guys. I left out a little info this morning. I was in a little bit of a hurry. The mini signals have a plastic housing (cheap) with a threaded pipe screwed into it. When I mounted the right front signal the pipe was pulling out of the housing. We have a really good two part epoxy at work. I removed the pipe, put a little two part on the threads and screwed it back in. It held really good so I put thesignal back on the bike and plugged it in. That is when I lost the right side blinkers. When I checked it out tonight I found that the right front signal was shorted out. That is why I blew the fuse. The electronic flasher was not flashing for some reason so it was a dead short. When I plugged in the old flasher it was flashing because of the dead short and did not blow the fuse. I tore the light apart tonight and fixed the short. I put it back together and the right side lights lit up again.
I took back the two spade electronic flasher that I bought last night and bought the Tridon EP35 that Hablo suggested and it works perfectly. I want to thank every one for taking time to read about my problem and try and help.

Now on to my charging system problem.
