The best thing/change/upgrade you did in last year
« on: May 16, 2012, 04:31:43 AM »
The long title says it all.  What is the best upgrade or change or maintenance you did to your CB in last 12 month?

I got the idea some place else, but it really made people come forward and shared a lot of information.

In my case it was probably Pamco, I never run it without it, but I never have to worry about points and it starts and runs with boring monotony:)

Upgraded Clutch springs, Clutch plates and friction plates.

Made a world of difference, was easy for shade tree mechanic such as myself and (not a lot) money well spent.

Gotta be the Pamco ignition.  It never did start this easily.  Not that it was bad before, but MUCH less cold blooded now.

I also put the Pamco ignition and coils on mine last winter.  Works great!

I hear you. I spent whole week patching tube and mounting with my jeep tire irons - and every time I fixed a hole I made a new one. $15 spent for 3 motorcycle irons made a huge difference.

Also new cluch cable and clutch lever from dime city was hard to believe on the first ride.

Without a doubt, getting rid of that faulty Dyna ignition and going back to points was the best upgrade for my bike. I did keep the Dyna coils and my bike will start on the first first kick even when it's 30 degrees outside.

Had the motor rebuilt over the winter, so much snappier and no more oil leaks from practically every gasket.

I finally modified  some old  float bowls with the internal overflow cut off and clear tubes on the drains so I can visually check the float levels. Bike runs way better now that the float  levels are correct.

In the past year? Definitely when I put the stock air box back on.. runs SO much better :)

Runners-up: new steering bearings, new OEM points

Most definitely the combination of a Kerker 4 into 1 and CB650 cam.  Sounds like an F1 car above 8k rpm!

Well my whole K5 was rebuilt but as far as "upgrades" I'd have to say:
Tapered steering bearings - ~$40
Solid state regulator - $29
Solid state rectifier - ~$20
Dyna S ignition - $100
Cycle-X Super Clutch Kit -$110

More than a year ago, but put a new Diamond 530 chain and new sprockets on my 750 K6 along with a new factory seat. What a difference those changes made ;)

+1 on the chain/sprocket combo.  My old one was stretched to the limit   and with the new one, it behaved like a different bike :)

I painted both bikes 77 550F and 81 650C with K2 paint and they shine like a new penny.  Mechanically I went to electronic ignition on the 550 and upgraded to AMG batteries on both bikes.
